#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Jake Brigance is back! The hero of A Time to Kill, one of the most popular novels of our time, returns in a “riveting” (The New York Times) courtroom drama from “the best thriller writer alive” (Ken Follett).

There is a time to kill and a time for justice. Now comes A Time for Mercy.

Clanton, Mississippi. 1990. Jake Brigance finds himself embroiled in a deeply divisive trial when the court appoints him attorney for Drew Gamble, a timid sixteen-year-old boy accused of murdering a local deputy. Many in Clanton want a swift trial and the death penalty, but Brigance digs in and discovers that there is more to the story than meets the eye. Jake’s fierce commitment to saving Drew from the gas chamber puts his career, his financial security, and the safety of his family on the line.

Bursting with all the courthouse scheming, small-town intrigue, and stunning plot twists that have become the hallmarks of the master of the legal thriller, A Time for Mercy is a richly rewarding novel that is both timely and timeless, full of wit, drama, and—most of all—heart.

“[John Grisham] has returned to the place closest to his heart. . . . The trial is riveting. . . . It’s striking how suspenseful the story is . . . how much we’re gripped by the small details.”—Sarah Lyall, The New York Times

“Textbook Grisham—and that’s a compliment . . . a briskly paced legal drama, with just the right amount of suspense, conflict, plot twists, [and] courtroom theatrics.”St. Louis Post-Dispatch

“A fine example of [Grisham’s] well-honed skillat hooking readers right into a story.”Tampa Bay Times

John Grisham has brought Clanton and Ford County to life. Not being from the south although I travel to that area, Mississippi in particular, I have come to appreciate the quirky nuances of this colorful world of sweet tea, fried foods and the sometimes troubled past that is the deep south. Mr Grisham is a gifted story teller and Michael Beck brings the characters alive. I can only hope that there's more Ford County stories forthcoming.

Ford County.

I was not so happy with the Andy Griffin/Goober voice of Jake. The other characters' voices were okay.

John! You have enough money to hire two narrators, a male, and a female.

I enjoyed the story.

A great book with a great reader! Love Grisham and Scott Brick! Amazing that such a novel -rich with storyline, character development and plot -can be so presented without using profanity or language that insults the readers’ intelligence. It makes one wonder why other authors find it necessary to do so. Listening to this book makes me eager for the next one!

Loved it!

I loved the story. True John Grisham writing. In the beginning I had a terrible time from being distracted from the story because of the irritating female voices. I soon became used to it though.

Female voices, NO.

This book was excellent! One of My favorites of Grisham’s. This story will have you feeling a whole range of emotions from disgusted and angry one minute to shedding a tear the next. I was also very pleased with the time spent wrapping up the ending instead of just leaving us hanging at the climax wondering what happens next for our favorite characters. Beck was masterful as usual! What an incredible narrator.

One oh his best!
