Caleb never wanted to join the army. And he certainly didn't want to be turned into a dragon. Ziya should have been the one to escape. If she and the white dragon Kaal had tried to escape on any night but a snowy night, her black scales would have been better camouflage than his white ones. Instead, she was captured, and he went free. And her captors remind her of this every day. So when she gets the chance for revenge, she's ready to make him pay.
