Als aber der amerikanische Geschäftsmann Woolworth auf seiner Einkaufstour zufällig auf die schönen Christbaumkugeln aus Lauscha aufmerksam wird, gibt er eine Großbestellung für Amerika in Auftrag...

Gegen alle Widerstände wird Mimi Reventlow Fotografin, und findet nicht nur ihre Freiheit, sondern auch die Liebe... Minna Reventlow, genannt Mimi, war schon immer anders als die Frauen ihrer Zeit. Es ist das Jahr 1911 und während andere Frauen sich um Familie und Haushalt kümmern, hat Mimi ihren großen Traum wahr gemacht.

Münsingen, 1914. Mimi und Anton sind inzwischen Geschäftspartner geworden, die sich auf der Schwäbischen Alb etabliert haben. Während auch Mimis Freunde Bernadette, Corinne und Alexander voller Tatendrang sind, verschärft sich das politische Klima in Deutschland zunehmend. Der Ausbruch des Ersten Weltkrieges zerstört jäh ihre Träume, und auf einmal ist nichts mehr, wie es war. Während die Männer an die Front ziehen müssen, ist in Münsingen die Stunde der Frauen gekommen.

Die Träume des Winters sind die Blumen des Frühlings ... Nach ihrer Trennung soll Christine entweder aus ihrem Haus ausziehen oder ihren Mann auszahlen. Wer aber gewährt einer Hausfrau Ende vierzig ein Darlehen oder stellt sie ein? Doch die Maierhofener Frauen halten zusammen und helfen Christine, ihr Haus in ein Bed & Breakfast umzuwandeln. Und sie wird Single-Wochenenden ausrichten, an denen man nicht nur das Landleben, sondern auch neue Menschen kennenlernt.

Wenn Fabienne die Gäste des Schleusenwärterhauses bewirtet, ist sie glücklich. Schließlich gibt es bei ihnen das beste Essen am ganzen Canal du Midi: Fabiennes Maman kocht zwar mit den einfachsten Zutaten, aber eben auch mit Liebe und Leidenschaft. Was könnte es Schöneres geben, als von ihr zu lernen? Nur der Gedanke an ihren Geliebten Eric lässt Fabienne gelegentlich von der großen weiten Welt träumen. Als Fabiennes Mutter unerwartet stirbt und der Vater eine neue Frau ins Haus holt, brennt die Minderjährige mit Eric durch.

Gerade erst haben sich Mimi Reventlow und ihr langjähriger Geschäftspartner Anton ihre Liebe gestanden. Und dennoch entscheidet sich die Wanderfotografin wie vor vielen Jahren schon einmal gegen den sicheren Hafen der Ehe und bricht stattdessen zu neuen Ufern auf! An der Westküste Amerikas - genauer gesagt in Hollywood - wartet ein spannender Auftrag auf sie. Für einen großen Bildband soll Mimi den derzeit größten weiblichen Stummfilmstar der Vereinigten Staaten fotografieren.

In ganz Europa verkaufen sie ihre Sämereien, bis nach Rußland und Amerika führen ihre Reisen.

Josefine lernt auf einer Reise in den Schwarzwald die gefährliche, für Frauen geradezu skandalöse Leidenschaft des Radfahrens kennen...

Die Berliner Fabrikantentochter Isabelle hat gegen den Willen ihrer Eltern den attraktiven Leon Feininger geheiratet. Sie geht mit ihm in die Champagne, wo er ein Weingut geerbt hat.
