  • Life After Law Enforcement
    Oct 2 2025

In this episode I chat with John Jay Wiley, a retired Baltimore police sergeant who reinvented himself as a nationally syndicated broadcaster.

John Jay is the creator and host of Law Enforcement Talk Radio, which is carried on more than 147 AM and FM stations across the country.

John Jay shares his transformative journey — from overcoming personal struggles to finding his voice as a storyteller and advocate for first responders, veterans, and their families.

With honesty and humor, he opens up about building confidence later in life, the lessons he learned from “crashing and burning,” and why mental health matters just as much as physical health.

    In our conversation, we cover:

    • His path from law enforcement to broadcasting.
    • How sobriety reshaped his life and career.
    • Why he launched Law Enforcement Talk Radio and how it challenges biased media narratives.
    • The routines and practices that support his mental health and resilience.
    • Why he sees age and experience as assets, not limitations.
    • His advice for thriving after 65 and embracing purpose at any age.

This conversation left me inspired, and I know it will encourage you, too, to see life’s second (or third!) acts as powerful opportunities to grow, serve, and shine.

Listen to Law Enforcement Talk Radio and follow John Jay on LinkedIn.

  • EP 69 Busting the Boomer Tech Myth
    Sep 11 2025

Boomers aren’t “bad at tech”—we built it. 🚀

In this solo episode of Don’t Be Caged By Your Age, I’m celebrating my 69th birthday (and Episode 69!) by busting one of the most persistent myths about my generation: that we struggle with technology.

From manual typewriters to PCs, rotary phones to smartphones, vinyl to streaming, punch card gaming to Pac-Man, and mimeographs to Zoom, we’ve adapted to—and often invented—more tech than any other generation in history.

    In this episode, I share:
✨ The viral LinkedIn post that launched Don’t Be Caged By Your Age
✨ How Boomers built the bridge from analog to digital
✨ A playful stroll through the tech we mastered (and sometimes wrestled with!)
✨ Why the “bad at tech” stereotype is not just wrong, but laughable

So the next time someone underestimates your tech savvy, remind them: you’ve been adapting, innovating, and thriving with tech for over 40 years.

Did I forget anything? I’d love to hear from you!

What tech did you navigate over the decades, and which tools or gadgets left the biggest impression on you? Come join the conversation with me on LinkedIn and Instagram.

  • EP 68 Unmasking ADHD as We Age
    Aug 28 2025

What happens when ADHD goes undiagnosed until midlife or later? And how does it affect women as we age?

Thriving after 65 means embracing every part of who we are … including the parts that may have been overlooked or misunderstood for decades.

In this episode of Don’t Be Caged By Your Age, I’m joined by Diann Wingert - a former psychotherapist turned coach and unapologetic truth-teller - to talk about what it really means to discover, unmask, and embrace ADHD later in life.

Diann shares her journey of being diagnosed with ADHD in her 50s, and how it shed new light on her past and opened up possibilities for her future.

Together, we explore how ADHD impacts women as we age, the surprising role of estrogen, and why so many of us struggle with perfectionism, procrastination, and people-pleasing.

    You’ll also hear:

    • Why late-in-life ADHD diagnoses are more common than we think
    • How aging can be an advantage when embracing neurodiversity
    • Practical strategies to turn problems into possibilities
    • What unapologetic ambition looks like after 60

This is a conversation about aging boldly, living authentically, and refusing to shrink as the years go by.

    About Diann:
Diann Wingert is the host of The ADHD-ish Podcast and a coach for driven women ready to ditch myths of midlife and embrace their brilliance. A former psychotherapist, Diann helps her clients transform self-doubt into self-leadership—at any age.
