I’m in love with my best friend.
Lie.
I’m in love with my enemy.
Truth.
But they’re the same.
They. Are. The. Same.
Lines in my world are blurry between fantasy and reality. Truth and lies. Love and hate.
Copeland Justice is my enemy. My once best friend. The sadist in my heart plucking and pulling at every thread of who I am until I’m unraveled at his feet.
His mouth says he hates me. His eyes burn with animosity for me. His heart beats for someone else.
But Copeland Justice is the best liar of us all.

This is an MM love story set in high school. Two former best friends had a falling out years earlier, but events force them into proximity and they patch things up. As they get close again, deeper feelings happen and they spend most of the book dealing with the confusion one of them experiences because of those feelings. Both boys are smart and likable, if a little testosterone-impaired. They are both fairly realistic characters, and I wanted them to be happy. I liked their part of the story, and luckily that's the majority of the book.
Most of the rest of the characters are pretty much caricatures, especially the boy's two fathers. They are controlling and just plain cruel, and the one dad in particular is basically a psychopath. They were written in a heavy-handed way and I found them to be unbelievable, quite frankly. The one dad sets up a situation in order to force his son to conform to his will, but it's a really bizarre and unrealistic thing for any parent to do to their kid, even if they hate the kid. So, much credibility is lost in that plot thread.
The mothers barely appear in the story, and both are portrayed as weak and passive. There is another female character who is a classic bitch, but she's mostly so full of histrionics it's hard to take her seriously, either. Nearly everyone except a female friend of the two boys are so over the top that they were essentially jokes.
To sum up: FABULOUS narration, likable MCs, enjoyable romance, and utterly ridiculous secondary characters and plot devices. if you can overlook the latter, you might find that the former is worth the listen.
Hamilton and Morgan together again!

I was suspicious of the plot, I am not a huge fan of stories set in high school. However, K Webster generally hits the right notes of angry teen, especially considering they are supposed to be affluent (another trope I generally don't care for). In this case, the rebellion simmering for the MCs makes a lot of sense, they've lived an unfulfilling and pressure filled existence . The "gay for you" concept can be a hard sell, but the way this story comes together, Copeland is less gay for you and more of an awakening. Finally, I like when the romance builds, even with fits and starts vs. the page 180 break up that requires the next 80 pages to resolve. The burn is good, and the growing pains of the MCs relationship make for a good listen. No spoilers, but the epilogue was unnecessary, but certainly not a problem. The natural ending was solid on its own. Would highly recommend.
Surprisingly dark and brooding romance!

Based in high school, it's a friends to enemies to lovers story. Penn knowing pretty early on that he had feelings for his best friend Copeland - and an unfortunate incident of acting on those feelings tearing them apart. A couple years later they are thrust back into each others lives where we get to witness Cope's feelings gradually change and Penn's every fantasy come true. Loved that they were each others firsts and they got their HEA.
I was thinking there would be a big reveal about the father's at the end since both of them were POS to their sons and the mother's were pretty much non-existent throughout. Just a feeling at the back of my brain that never came to fruition...which would have made this story a whole new level of taboo :)
Solid 4.5 stars!

Teddy Hamilton has very quickly become my favorite narrator. His voice is fire, so sexy but with an innocent quality to it when it's needed. the guy can read. and act. he's amazing. Now he has a counterpart who is as good as he is in there form of Jacob Morgan whose voice is dripping in excess sexiness. and talent. together they are electric. and they have such good material to work with here. you need to listen to this
so good.
