Resumen del Editor

This audiobook is an updated edition of a guide to the basic science of climate change, and a call to action. The vast majority of scientists agree that human activity has significantly increased greenhouse gases in the atmosphere - most dramatically since the 1970s. Yet global warming skeptics and ill-informed elected officials continue to dismiss this broad scientific consensus. In this updated edition of his authoritative book, MIT atmospheric scientist Kerry Emanuel outlines the basic science of global warming and how the current consensus has emerged. Although it is impossible to predict exactly when the most dramatic effects of global warming will be felt, he argues, we can be confident that we face real dangers. Emanuel warns that global warming will contribute to an increase in the intensity and power of hurricanes and flooding and more rapidly advancing deserts. But just as our actions have created the looming crisis, so too might they avert it. Emanuel calls for urgent action to reduce greenhouse gases and criticizes the media for downplaying the dangers of global warming (and, in search of “balance,” quoting extremists who deny its existence).

This edition has been updated to include the latest climate data, a discussion of the Earth's carbon cycle, the warming hiatus of the first decade of this century, the 2017 hurricanes, advanced energy options, the withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement, and more. It offers a new foreword by former US Representative Bob Inglis (R-SC), who now works on climate action through his organization RepublicEN.

What We Know About Climate Change is wonderfully read by award-winning narrator Karen Chilton.

This book comes with a downloadable PDF which contains all graphics included in the print edition.

Very Informative

This was a very informative book with excellent info on solutions. Excellent chapter on political situation, non partisan, pointing out that both liberals and conservatives have contributed to the situation we are in. Just factual without taking sides.

The Perfect Primer on Climate Change

I had never read any of the science around climate change, and I figured the time was ripe for me to educate myself, so I picked up this book. It had the perfect amount of information for me and presented it at the perfect level of detail. Now I have just enough information to have some "solid facts" to go back to if I find myself in a debate.
I like how this book was not alarmist, but just calmly laid out what we do know and what we don't know and what our options are. It is clearly the perspective of a scientist rather than an activist.

Great basic science; solutions incomplete.

The basic science portion is wonderful & provides a big picture view not often found. But the solutions portion was very heavy on nuclear & continued use of fossil fuel (with carbon capture). Renewables were denigrated because of intermittency, but currently available battery storage was neglected.

Written by a Scientist - Not a "Journalist"

This is good work and worth reading. You will get education and information. This is worth the investment of time and well produced. Good coverage of Nuclear and Carbon Capture options. Plus, the author invest time to pitch conservatives on the issue of subsidies and "national" champion industries that are counter free-market. I liked this book.

The voice talent is unusual, it's a older woman, but she does great and is easy to listen to.

Mediocre at best

Extremely superficial overview, I would recommend something more comprehensive as a starting point.
Definitely does not even begin to cover "what you need to know."
The only part that would awesome was highlighting how the US lags in nuclear power.
