Resumen del Editor

People ask me when I first knew I was female. Would you believe me if I told you that I don't know if I've ever known, since I don't really know what a woman is, other than a concept that exists outside me - still, I know that I have felt like one, a woman I mean, yet the only way I first knew was from males? Will you suspend prejudgment long enough to entertain the possibility that gender can be so relative?

Cheer up honey!

I'm still learning about transgenderism and appreciate Zoe's effort to illuminate the issues. She sounds so sad, though; I do hope she finds things to be cheerful about.

Very interesting!

Zoe, first and foremost I enjoyed listening ! I too am a person who is more of a female than a male. Yet society places so much importance on one or the other. I began my transition two years ago to satisfy the binary world and myself. I am preop looking to be post op in the next year. I really haven't even thought about the sexual element to all of this. I am now really more concerned about my well being and adjusting to what society deems normal. I personally do not like labels I prefer to say I identify as a woman nothing else. The act of concentrating on my genitalia to define who I am is actually ridiculous if you ask me.

elegant, beautiful and eye opening

Zoe's personal story helped me understand trans women and women who transitioned better than anything I've ever read. Her story was graceful, insightful and honest. This book is essential reading for anyone to learn compassion towards the trans community.

It's a important perspective, but the delivery?

This is tough review to write. So, on the one hand, the singular concept that at a certain point of transition when you are post-op and have a stealth identity, you are no longer Trans anything, you are just there. Just female. It's a very important perspective that needs to be looked at and is kind of against the party line of the transition community that embrace non-op, gender fluid, and non binary.... and I like it. But... The delivery was tinged with what sounded like bitterness and leftover feelings about her past during the reunion that make it a less than pleasant listen. Someone else might should have read it. She often sounds defensive and irratated with the prior she is with... I mean I didn't write this for 3 years after reading because want sure if should might be counter productive to the message that was there that I did like.... Frustrating... It could have been great!... But, instead, the attitude and delivery of the author made it less than could have been... Sorry Zoe, just the truth...

So Real

If perspective is what you require (much like me) this is a most realistic read.

Insulting to transgender people like me

So transgender people are the cause celebre of the LGBT movement? If it were not for 'trans activists' then who would fight or represent our rights?
Why question what 'transgender' means .. exactly? I know what it means to me and others!
The author must be so lucky to know it all.

it's missing something

this focuses on defining self by others. but i can't help feeling that is a well worded half truth. As i see it others are our mirrors. we reflect on them and there color, clarity, and shape reflect back a distorted image of self that in aggregate informs our growth and sense of personal self. i am a woman regardless of others because that is what i find to be the vital constant in my reflection. even if those i am reflected on don't see it.
