Resumen del Editor

Irreversible Damage is an exploration of a mystery: Why, in the last decade, has the diagnosis "gender dysphoria", transformed from a vanishingly rare affliction, applying almost exclusively to boys and men, to an epidemic among teenage girls?

Author Abigail Shrier presents shocking statistics and stories from real families to show that America and the West have become fertile ground for a "transgender craze" that has nothing to do with real gender dysphoria and everything to do with our cultural frailty. Teenage girls are taking courses of testosterone and disfiguring their bodies. Parents are undermined; experts are over-relied upon; dissenters in science and medicine are intimidated; free speech truckles under renewed attack; socialized medicine bears hidden consequences; and an intersectional era has arisen in which the desire to escape a dominant identity encourages individuals to take cover in victim groups.

Every person who has ever had a skeptical thought about the sudden rush toward a non-binary future but been afraid to express it - this book is for you.

Really intriguing book

I came into this with an open mind. This opened my eyes to a world I did not understand. Definitely a great listen.

Your perception is NOT necessarily your reality

That’s what I want to tell my daughter.
I feel so alienated after moving to the States and be suddenly hit by the culture and because everyone judges me, as I’m on the battle and I try to challenge my daughter and make everyone to do the same - especially the medical field- the therapists, the physicians, the school workers … It’s overwhelming and after listening to this book, I feel like I’m not alone. I feel that there are those parents who know their kids and love them too much, to not to question their teenage girls about their sudden urge to self harm. That’s how I call the whole procedure of prescribing hormone blockers, using and binders, mental brainwash on the minors! The whole affirmation therapy is an absolute nonsense in the cases of puberty developed gender dysphoria!
Self diagnosing based on what social media influencers have to say, all the changes of the name and pronounce at the school at the doctors office - absolute craziness!
The doctors and therapists should be here for our kids to find the sources of their depression and anxiety not to affirm straight away, that the lost teenager is depressed cause - their parents don’t understand their sudden choice and cause they feel bad in their body ?! Which teenager doesn’t?
I certainly have noticed the trend of every second kid at the high school being different orientation then straight.
What’s community seems not to recognize I feel like there is a huge difference between a child coming out as different sexual orientation then straight, cause there is no physical harm to explore those fields really, but your daughter coming out as a trans person with the applause of everyone around especially doctors, teachers and the teenage idols can be physically, mentally and IRREVERSIBLY harmful to the young person on it’s way of searching for their identity.
Great book, wish for more answers, more scientific proof to support some theories I actually agree with and the actual places me and my 16years old daughter could be helped, while it’s not treated as a “conversion therapy”, rather asking the question- is your perception really your reality?
There is a hope.
Desperate mother of the only Daughter

Read it before it’s banned!

This book is an important, well written and thoroughly researched discussion of the explosion in Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria among young girls in the United States. It is in no way “transphobic” or disrespectful of the informed choices that adults who have suffered from gender dysphoria since early childhood make.
The author deals specifically with young women and girls who had not previously expressed such interest to undertake chemical and medical steps to become male, and the long term devastating consequences for their health and future fertility. There is minimal medical oversight in the business, and be sure of it, it is a business, so girls as young as 13 can receive life altering drugs without their parents’ knowledge or consent. Amazon has received considerable pressure not to sell this book so get it while you still can.
After reading this book I wonder when being female became a medical condition that needs to be treated.

Amazing Job

The content of this book was well researched and expressed in a unbiased way. After reading this I feel more comfortable respectfully discussing these issues with others. It is sad that as a society these types of discussions are frowned upon and avoided. We need more individuals like this author to stand up and express controversial viewpoints without fear.

Very Insightful

My daughter is 13 years old and we are going through the same thing with her and most of her friends actually. It’s terrifying and I’m so glad that I was able to find a source like this! I was really starting to panic. The words in this book are a nice change to the other things that I’ve been reading and hearing. This seems to approach the problem from a point of reason where others are not.

heartbreaking but a must read

This book really opened my eyes to what they're teaching in school and what they're allowing kids to do behind their parents backs. It's a scary thing that teachers and therapists are allowed to go against parents' wishes because they think they know better. Guard your daughters!

Essential Reading Every Parent

It’s time for parents in America to know the facts. And this book does a great job of describing a phenomenon and “crazy“ that is damaging our girls. I encourage every parent to read it.

A look into the sweeping transgendered movement

Abigale answers many questions that I have had about the Transgendered movement. And most importantly, ways to talk to your daughters about the joyousness of being a woman.

Excellent listen, desperately needed

Highly recommend this book - we must be able to have real dialogue about difficult topics. Something we seem unable to do anymore as a society. This book should be passed along as fodder for conversation to parents, school administrators and anyone who will listen and thoughtfully engage.

Well researched

This is a well researched book. The author interviewed many transgender individuals, parents and detransitioners. I think all educators and doctors should read this.
