PERFORMED IN DUET NARRATION!!!

The ache of tragedy sunk deep, like the claws of a wicked monster.

To heal was to remember what my godfather told me when I was six…Pain is a part of life. If you prepare for it, it will hurt less.

He would know, after all. Lazarus Weston is pain personified.

The scowling man with stormy eyes and tattoos covering his excessive muscles is not only my godfather, but also my dad’s business partner and best friend. A permanent fixture in our lives. Well, in Dad’s, not mine.

But when grief mixes with confusing new feelings, I’m forced to see Lazarus differently, in a way that severely complicates my world.

Because he’s too old for me. He’ll never be mine.

I’m not allowed to have him, but obsession burns a fine line between can’t and won’t.

I can’t want her…The curse on my heart is heavy, the tale of my malediction drenched in brutal loss. Wearing ink like scars reminds me of the tomb I left behind.

I’ve been expecting pain all my life, yet I’m still unprepared, failing to see my downfall until she’s wrapped around my soul like barbed wire.

Tracien Wright. My best friend’s daughter. Part of my life strictly through association. She was never meant to be more than that.

But Traci is a trickster. A skilled predator in the most unexpected package, oblivious to her own power.

She’ll learn the hard way that not all beasts should be hunted.

I’m not what she thinks I am, having rose from a pit, only to bury myself in secrets and lies.

Deep down I’d love nothing more than to have her. But I don’t get to keep nice things.

Burn with me, Lazarus.

This story, simply put this story is about Tracien (aka Traci) and Lazarus. Lazarus has been a fixture in Traci life since she was born. (22 year age gap.) Damien, Traci’s father is Lazarus’ best friend, has a large role in this story.

This is the slowest of slow burns. This is plot heavy. It takes over 12 hours for a barely there spicy moment. However, in true Nyla K. fashion, when I spice starts it’s unbelievably good. I ate this up.

Emotional Journey

This book was very well written and the male narrator was HOT. That being said it is 22 hours of angst, self loathing and sadness then 1 hour of okay and one hour of somewhat happy. So, if you don't mind the story having ZERO happiness until about the end, soldier on.

Too much angst

I absolutely devoured this! Narrators were all incredible 👏 Now, I didn't expect that I was going to tear up in this book but OMG! ❤️

Nyla!!! Chapter 36 😏🔥

I have so many mixed feelings about this book. I love Nyla K but this one is not a favorite. To each their own and I feel like the minority with my thoughts and rating.
Damian and Lazarus are great characters. Leah is written as an amazing human. Tracy is written a cringeworthy. I just can't with Tracy.
This book is heavy with trigger warnings so know them before you go in. My only trigger warning is that Tracy is horrible.
The narration was incredible on this book and all the narrators are new to me. Love duet narration.

Lazarus is so complex and hot. We know that. His relationship with Damien and Leah is so special. But it all breaks when Leah dies.
I struggled so hard with Tracy. She is the black widow. She is not wise for her age and I cringe at all her pinning for an older man when she is just 13. Like gross. She is self centered. It's me, me, me. She's manipulative and a child.
Chapter 29 was such a relief because it shows the start of Lazarus and Damien's love with a foursome that is had in college. I was like finally we are getting a story.
Chapter 36 is how I had hoped the book would have went. The guys together are explosive in such a hot but tender way. They should have been the ones to end up together.
Tracy is relentless in her pursuit of Lazarus when she is older, ha-ha 17, and so many times Lazarus tells her "this has to stop" but she puts pressure on him to keep going. Umm. That's sexual assault. No means no. I have huge issues with this. Then she f'n drugs him. Like WTAF. She is a predator.
Chapter 35 is when Damien finds out and Tracy now has all this remorse. Where was it when you were screwing over your dad. Then she takes all those pills and it is such a cop out. Yep I am being harsh. I don't feel sad for her and her comment when Lazarus is not talking to her after the discovery "His whore daughter who fucked his best friend" sums it up beautifully. Tracy once again makes it all about her when her dad finds out and Lazarus has blocked her not giving any thought about the pain and suffering he is going through because it's all about her.
It's too bad that Damian never heard Tracy's side of the story on how she stalked Lazarus. Maybe he would have forgiven Lazarus quicker. The fact he finally came around and was headed to make up with Lazarus, in what I was hoping a romantic way, and then gets killed in a car crash just pissed me off. It should have been Damian and Lazarus all along. Tracy would have been better off paired with Mercy

Not my favorite Nyla K
