"Thank goodness you're such a plain child. You'll have to rely on your wits." So went the words of Grandma Bebe. And for all of my growing-up years, I scoffed at the beauty of my sister and what I saw as her meaningless existence.

"But my wits hadn't served me well in this instance, for here I was, in jail. And while I could have seen it as carrying on the family tradition (Grandma Bebe landed in jail for her support of Prohibition), the truth is, my reasons for being here would probably break her heart.

"So how did I end up becoming a criminal? I've been pondering that question all night. Perhaps the best way to search for an answer is to start at the very beginning."

I enjoyed the telling of four generations and how they each had disappointments and struggles and how they helped others in need. Through it all, God was there with them, always faithful, The women learned their faith in God was the most important thing and helping others was an extension of that.

I liked the story. Characters were intriguing, and I enjoyed the generational interplay. Time and location of each character’s story were cleverly in interwoven by the character narration.

This required review interrupted my program and doesn’t generate customer favor. I think reviews should be offered, not demanded.

I have always enjoyed this story whether reading from a physical book or listening to it. It tells of the faithfulness of God to each generation regardless of the curse of sin. The way the story flows is great and there is wonderful humor sprinkled throughout.

Would you listen to Though Waters Roar again? Why?

No, too much switching back and forth from girl, to mother, to grandmother.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the complete story of Beatrice.

Have you listened to any of Pam Turlow’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I'm not sure if I've listened to her or not. I loved all of Lynn Austin's other audiobooks.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Generations of women.

Any additional comments?

This did not move along as smoothly as Lynn's other works, but I am glad I read it. I don't like to miss any of my favorite author's books.

Not her best novel.
