A fragile peace gives way to conspiracy, betrayal, and rebellion in this sequel to the New York Times bestselling A Little Hatred from epic fantasy master Joe Abercrombie.

Peace is just another kind of battlefield . . .

Savine dan Glokta, once Adua's most powerful investor, finds her judgement, fortune and reputation in tatters. But she still has all her ambitions, and no scruple will be permitted to stand in her way.

For heroes like Leo dan Brock and Stour Nightfall, only happy with swords drawn, peace is an ordeal to end as soon as possible. But grievances must be nursed, power seized, and allies gathered first, while Rikke must master the power of the Long Eye . . . before it kills her.

Unrest worms into every layer of society. The Breakers still lurk in the shadows, plotting to free the common man from his shackles, while noblemen bicker for their own advantage. Orso struggles to find a safe path through the maze of knives that is politics, only for his enemies, and his debts, to multiply.

The old ways are swept aside, and the old leaders with them, but those who would seize the reins of power will find no alliance, no friendship, and no peace lasts forever.

This is my second time listening to this book. Still great. Especially since this time I've listened to all the previous series that go with it. Joe Abercrombie and Steven Pacey entertain me with these characters like a cat entertains itself with a mouse it's going to kill. He is by NO means a "Walking Dead" author. He doesn't try to get you by constantly murdering his characters. He makes things happen but he waits for his moment.

Even better the second time

Was so engaged and listened to it so much I was shocked on how quick it ended. It was just as long as the other books bit JA continues to make complex characters and twists.

Love the series.

Dark, gritty and smart.
Characters well fleshed out and it was tough to pick a side, in the age of madness

6th listen of the entire series - tried to time the 6th just right so the end of The Trouble with Peace landed on Sept 14th, the day of the release of The Wisdom of Crowds... amazingly, I succeeded.... and tonight, a new story in this world begins. The word excited does not come close to the point.

Joe Abercrombie and Stephen Pacey once again produce a masterpiece. The story is tight, the characters deep, and the performance exquisite. I never wanted to stop listening. The way Abercrombie sets up the sequel, I cannot wait to get the next book.

Continued Brilliance

A classic Joe Abercrombie book. If you haven't read him before, you shouldn't be reading this book, and if you have, I'm not spoiling anything to complain that he just gives you things to love so that he can take them away. I can't get enough of his dark, cynical, realistic take on fantasy. His work is just so fresh. And Steven Pacey, I can't say enough good things about. He is far and away my favorite narrator. I am always awed by how he brings back a character from so long ago and you recognize them by their voice. How does he do it??

Abercrombie's sorry telling is getting better and better. His character development is unmatched amongst fantasy authors.

Fantastic book!

Longtime fan of Abercrombie. I went into the later books lamenting the loss of many of my favorite characters from the First Law trilogy. I was sure I would never love any of the new as much as the old but I'm delighted to say that I was wrong. Love and hate, twists and turns, blood and gore, betrayals and more betrayals. Always a pleasure.

Helluva book
