Resumen del Editor

Finalist for Best Series: 2019 Next Generation Indie Book Awards

The fifth installment of the award-winning Chronicles of an Imperial Legionary Officer series is finally here!

Ben Stiger, Legate of the Lost Thirteenth Legion, a nobleman from an infamous family and born fighter, has defeated the servants of the evil god Castor and crushed the dark deity's orc-led army. Having repaired the damage wrought by Castor and fixed the timeline, Stiger has returned to the present, bringing with him the entire Thirteenth Legion and her auxiliary cohorts.

If he thought the road behind him was a difficult path to travel, the one ahead will prove even more challenging.

A rebel army is besieging the Vrell Valley. Hundreds of miles away, the Cyphan Confederacy's armies are driving into the heart of the empire, leaving a swath of destruction in their wake. Stiger, with his dwarven and gnome allies, must break out of Vrell and then, if successful, march to the aid of the emperor. Should the empire fall, everything Stiger has worked toward will be lost, and darkness, like a shadowy veil, will forever fall over the world of Istros.

Stiger has finally accepted the mantle of Champion for his god, the High Father. He is seen by his men as gods blessed. But has he truly been blessed? Or has Stiger been cursed to a terrible destiny, one even the elves dread?

Stiger intends to see his purpose through to the bitter end, no matter where it leads. Along that lonely road, all those who stand in his way will feel his mighty wrath.

The final battle to save the empire and the world has begun.

Great series but

I just happened upon this series and got hooked after book one. Book 5 was great as all the others were also. I just hope there ends up being a book 6 but I’m hearing this is the last. The only reason I can’t give it 5 stars overall is once the book ends, there are still quite a few loose ends or unanswered questions. While authors don’t have to answer all questions when ending a series, a few of these absolutely should have been.

The saga continues

Ben Stiger's saga continues back in the present, where as Legate he faces yet another foe, the Cyphan. Stiger recruits more groups of allies, which turn out to be some new species to the story. I for one enjoy seeing who will show up in the camp next, and I love the dragon characters. As for Stiger, there's never a dull moment in this man's life, his personal, professional, and even spiritual.

Talk about a comeback

Marc creative brain has made and cultivated the best fantasy book in a long time.

Stigers lived two lives. A intriguing man who can always be counted upon to out think, out maneuver and out pace the enemy. Should be required reading for entry level infantry officers and NCO’s. Great with relating to the art of warfare in conjunction with the science of warfare.

Those who are not willing to lead, are often the best leaders

This was a really good story so our protagonist is now emperor. I just hope he doesn’t end up like Julius Caesar in a few other emperors who were assassinated. Et to Boutte.

Fun listen kind of fell into this Genre

I enjoy Roman history however, by accident I got interested in historical fiction and then kind of fell into this fantasy genre. Happy I did. I’m bedridden and don’t watch TV. So Podcasts and Audio books keep this 71 year old occupied, my vision is not very good in addition to physical poor mobility. I have more than 30 of these in my audio library. From a non fiction guy to story’s with Dragons, elves, dwarfs and other creatures is quite a leap however, just for the enjoyment this stuff keeps this old guy’s mind occupied. Good story’s well written and preformed make me happy perhaps you might enjoy them as well. Have fun.

Epic

This book does not disappoint and neither does the narrator this book continues to prove why any of Edelheit’s books are an instant buy for me

Best book of the series so far.

Good mix of action, character development and set up. Loved the pacing as well as everything flowed naturally and felt balanced. All in all an enjoyable listen 👌

Pros and Cons

Pros:
The story’s premise and its themes are imaginative and captivating.
The protagonists have depth and character.
The action during the final battle is described in good detail and paced nicely.
The ending is fantastic — A perfect cliffhanger.

Cons:
The first twelve hours is boring and neither adds to the storyline nor builds suspense leading up to the final battle. In fact, there’s approx twelve hours of dialogue before anything interesting happens. Worse, it’s primarily one to five word sentences ending with “Stiger said”, “Salt said”, “The lieutenant said”, et cetera — Nothing is more annoying when listening to an audiobook.
Edleheit is not a professional author nor does he have a proper, good editor, so his writing is elementary and filled with basic grammatical errors. Here’s an example of his excessive use of repetition: “Stiger was stiff and sore when he woke up. He couldn’t think properly, because he hadn’t slept more than two hours and his muscles were stiff and sore. The last thing his body needed was less sleep and more walking. He needed to rest before leading his legion of men forward. He didn’t know when he would get to rest again. He was so tired and sore, however, there was more work to be done. But how could he work if he was tired and his body was sore? It just wouldn’t be possible until he got some sleep. His body needed to rest and recover. But there wasn’t any time for sleep. He had to work before he could sleep again.”
The narrator uses the same voice for every character, which would work if those characters weren’t elves, dwarves, orcs, gnomes, and dragons. His speech is also very monotonous.

The story is getting long in the tooth.

Marius' Mules I: The Invasion of Gaul Is an excellent series. Tiger started off good in book one an two. But now the dwarfs and fairy tale creatures get on my nerves. So I end my run on this series
