target's roots /slogan is expect more pay less.
it was lagging in expect more and focusing on less only on Payless. but it's since refocused and went back to its roots.

Good historical overview

I enjoyed learning about the genesis and evolution of target and their leadership as they developed from a family owned department store to a large publicly traded quality discount retailer. The book identified some smart growth and acquisition strategies as well as some mistakes.

Infomercial

General overview of the history of Target. There was no substance or takeaways. The last third of the book is a salesy employee recruitment tool. the narration sounds like a long infomercial.

Not balanced. Not interesting. Nothing to learn.

Listened for an hour and stopped. This seems like a book meant for Target midmanagement to celebrate Target. Nothing to learn. Bummer.
