Resumen del Editor

Just beyond the reality we see, mysteries stretch into infinity.

Jake Carter was just an ordinary kid, but during his freshman year in high school, he became truly extraordinary. It all begins when Jake’s only friend Johnny almost died in a tragic accident. He was the sole survivor of an expedition during an annual class trip to the Santa Lucia Mountains. He was trapped underground for nine days after the cave they were exploring collapsed.

Weak and lifeless, he was found along the Pacific coast, nearly fifteen miles away from the entrance. While underground, Johnny experienced many strange things, and now, Jake was seeing them too! It was during this time that they discover an ancient secret - reality is merely an illusion.

A mystical universe swirls just out of sight, yet they never take notice. They’ve been forced by everyone around them to ignore one basic fact - that their power is limitless. This simple twist of fate and the several months that followed changed Jake’s life forever. With a small group of high school outcasts, they begin a strange journey. By giving up the reality they’ve always known, they grow stronger every day. Their destiny lies before them as they tumble helplessly into a world of power, energy, and terrifying beings. Once they accept the truth and reject the world they’ve always known, they finally begin to see.

interesting and a bit bizarre.

I received a free copy of this book for review purposes, my review is voluntary and unbiased

This book was strange and a bit psychedelic, it focused heavily on perceptive reality, it's part Descartes, part multiverse theory, and part unseen universe.

The idea dehind this book is great, its pretty original and thought provoking.

It is however a bit slow early on and I didn't particularly like any of the main characters. Especially Jacob the main pov character is pretty insufferable. He's not poorly written, he's just pretty self absorbed a bit of a jerk.

overall the book is good even though i disliked the main character.

The Seers

What an interesting concept. K. G. Broas was so descriptive, I could definitely visualize what was going on. I do think this would make a visually stunning movie.

Brad Matherly did a fine job with the narration.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

The Seers: Secrets Of The Phantom Beast

We are all so sure about the world around us. Whether we consciously think about it or not, from a physics standpoint, there are certain universal constants that govern the universe and regulate how we interact in this world. But what if those universal constants we are so sure of, our very our perception of reality itself, turned out to be an illusion? That is the dilemma high school student, Jake Carter and a few other high school outcasts come to realize after a school tragedy. Discovering these new perceptions of reality and the power it brings could have been a positive thing. It could have been a grand adventure for Jake and the others, but with their new knowledge and abilities also came an awareness of another existence. An existence that seemed to be completely intolerant of Jake and the others.

"The Seers: Secrets Of The Phantom Beast" is a really interesting concept that is an extremely difficult tale to express to the reader/listener. The worst most science fiction and fantasy writers have to contend with is world building. Author, K. G. Broas, has to build and convey not just a world, but a whole universe to us. The author needs to both explain and describe concepts that are not only mind-blowing and challenging to say the least, but he also needs to keep the story moving along and of course, interesting. If completely successful, I envision something in the league of a Brandon Sanderson novel at its best and a generic comic book plot at its worst. I don't feel "The Seers" is on the level of A Brandon Sanderson novel, but it also remains to be seen, for me, if it will ascend above the level of a comic book.

Since the initial story doesn't finish in book one, I can't tell where it will stand on my scale. I can, however, tell you that I was getting into the story when it came to an end without wrapping up anything. Generally speaking, I don't mind a book with a secondary story arc that spans multiple books, but I really hate it when the primary story arc in a book is not completed in that same book. "The Seers: Secrets Of The Phantom Beast" unfortunately, does not wrap up in book one. In fact, the story feels like it's just getting started. I don't know what the author's intention was, I can only tell you I was left frustrated by where the story breaks to end book one. Enough so that it negatively affected how many stars I awarded book one. In truth, I feel like I would need to at least read/listen to book two before I give any review. Unfortunately, that's not how things work.

Finally, this free, review copy audio book was given to me at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

The Seers

The Seers is a pretty good YA fantasy novel. It follows Jake Carter and his friends Johnny and Brooke. The story is a bit weird and seems a little rushed and certain things are glossed over at times but it is enjoyable and fun. The book begins when Jake's old friend Johnny goes missing on a school trip when there was an earthquake while he was in a cave with his classmates. All our feared dead buy Johnny miraculously shows up days later and he is the only survivor and he is definitely not the same.

The story and 'magic system' in the book are different to most others you will have seen which does make it interesting but I don't think they were really explored as deeply as they could have been. My main issue with the book were I wasn't really a huge fan of some of the characters, Johnny for instance was really that great of a guy and I don't know why everyone loved him so much. Jake was cool most of the time but then he would do or say something that kind of annoyed me as well.

The narration by Brad Matherly was done well and fits this type of story well. If you like young adult fantasy novels this should be right up your alley.

I totally LOVED this!!

This was such an amazing book from beginning to end! This author was incredibly descriptive and so much fun to read. I really hope there are more books. It might have been one of the best sci-fi kind of books that I have read in a long time. It was very thought provoking. The narration was also excellent!!

This book was given to me upon my request. I am providing a voluntary and honest review.

Overly complicated

Interesting premise. One of the rare occasions where I can guarantee this would be a better movie. The visuals would help and the dumb down for the screen would benefit this overly complicated mythos. Preachy at points on the benefits of not feeding your ego. I tend to agree, but at points was a bit much. The narrators normal tone is fine but had no range for different characters. All that being said I would continue the series. I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left my honest review.
