So . . . I signed up for something. Not a gym or Costco membership, which probably would have been wiser. Oh no, I signed up for a social experiment. You heard me right. I, Lanie Davenport, am going to be the subject of a scientific study. Do I know what this study is for? Not exactly. But I know it means I have to live with a stranger for twelve weeks and do a video diary once a week, answering the researchers’ questions. The bright side is that I’m getting paid, like a lot of money. The downside is that my roommate isn’t a woman like I supposed. I thought I would get a new BFF, but in her place is one Parker Remington. Mr. broody-leave-the-toilet-seat-up-don’t-talk-to-me-or-organize-my-Pop-Tarts-in-the-pantry. You get the picture.
But this I can’t have. I don’t know what this experiment is about, but I’m going to save it and make a difference in the world. And whether Parker likes it or not, he’s going to help me. Well, maybe. He’s a tough nut to crack, and I should probably leave well enough alone. But there’s just something about my gorgeous, older, genius-level roommate that makes me want to find out what makes him tick. I have a feeling if he would let me into his world, it would change mine.
But experimenting with the heart is the most dangerous research around. You never know what the outcome will be.

"The Proximity Factor" is an irresistible, funny, romantic comedy with this premise: a social experiment forcing two polar opposites to live together for twelve weeks. We meet bubbly Lanie Davenport, who finds herself living with the last person she expected—a grumpy, Pop-Tart-particular, closed-off man named Parker Remington.
The forced proximity helps provide all the tension, banter, and slow-burn chemistry we could hope for. Lanie’s optimism and warmth are such a contrast to Parker’s stoic, reserved nature, creating both hilarious and touching scenes. Pop-Tart organization, anyone? (IYKYK) The weekly video diary adds a fun element, allowing insight into Lanie’s thoughts while giving us a peek into how the "experiment" is changing her.
Things I loved: dual POV (always a favorite), the weekly video diary, enemies-to-lovers (it's one of my favorite tropes), laugh out loud scenes, the epilogue, and of course all the swoony kisses! If you love a good opposites-attract romance with layers of humor and heart, The Proximity Factor delivers in full. Parker may be a tough nut to crack, but watching Lanie try is pure joy.
I listened to the audiobook and flew through it. I thought both narrators did a great job–Stephanie Rose is one of my favorites! I increased the speed a little when the male narrator spoke because I preferred his voice that way, especially when he did the voice of his younger sister.
A fun opposites attract

I must confess this is my favorite Jennifer Peel book yet. Parker is just a dream MMC, He’s the grumpy character with a heart of gold. And I just love Lanie. She's one of those characters you would love to have as a best friend. The setting is unique and I love the forced proximity in this one. It's definitely the first time I think the characters have been put together due to an experiment. I smiled every time I went to read this one and I didn’t want this story to end. And the bonus epilogue is one you will want to read. If you like grumpy/sunshine, forced proximity, social experiments, age gap romance, enemies to lovers, and a southern mama who will do anything for her kids then this is definitely the book for you. If you're a fan of Gilmore Girls and the town antics you will love this one. Personally this gave me all the fun Hart of Dixie vibes. So I’m saying run, don't walk and grab a copy of this audiobook. This one is a keeper. Also check out her other books. I haven't listened to one yet that I didn't like.

Lanie and Parker brought out the best in each other even if their initial interactions were a bit bumpy. I loved their character growth. The video diaries were super creative and so insightful into each main character. Definitely loved the dual POV. The narrators did a fantastic job capturing both of them, including accents and age. I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook and definitely recommend it. I’ll be listening to it again for sure.
Content: make-outs and some innuendo.

They've signed up for a social experiment where they must live together sight unseen for twelve weeks. Aside from the money, Lanie feels good about her contribution to science and the prospect of a new friend—a female friend.
Parker needs the money and hopes to use the expense-free time to work while ignoring the assumed other male roommate in the house. Obviously, they're both wrong, but this story is Oh. So. Right!
🎧Additionally, these narrators could not be better.
Stephanie Rose captures Lanie's sass perfectly. She is always a favorite, but Stephen Dexter took me by surprise this time. It's no secret I have a thing for voices, but I'm pretty sure ❤️🔥the beginning of Week 2 gave me a mild cardiac event.❤️🔥
Not going to lie; I enjoyed it. A lot.
These narrators will be doing the next Jennifer Peel book and let me tell you, there is no better collaboration than Jennifer Peel, Stephanie Rose, and Stephen Dexter. So, treat yourself to this one, and don't be too sad when it's over.
