I enjoy the process of learning. This book helped me to really understand Stoicism and their thought process. Good explanations and added comments.

So much relates to today

It’s amazing how much knowledge can be used today
It could’ve used a bit more emotion. But great read
Thank you

Good introduction to Stoicism

I found this book both useful and enjoyable. Initially I found the flow interrupted by the frequent citations within the text. However, they eventually lead to a better understanding of the content. This book is essentially a review of the philosophy of Stoicism as it has come down to us today.

Clean, comprehensive, understandable, humble.

I think that lawyer wrote this book can be seen in its precision. Just some of my asociations: Stoics try to not fear of death and view mortality as another perspective - I find amusing that those are quite similar views to Tantra (as presented in books of Christopher Wallis for example), Vikalpas and samskaras have similar structure like stoics model of cognition/reaction to phenomena (that we react to our judgment, not phenomena itself - 3 folded proces). Talebs antifragility also crossed my mind during reading about stoics. Buddha's middle path also comes in mind regarding moderation way and natural pleasures (taken how bigger problem we have with our own "hamster wheels" at this age). Some other Stoic techniques resembles mindfulness meditation aswell as some authors points out. I read Scott Carneys Wedge recently and I would say that stoics teach that too - inserting wedge between perception and our automatic reaction. Human condition is only one I gues, there is nothing new to come with as stoics themselves say (until human nature/genes change which reminds me Hararis book). Great book to connect all books I read this year. Stoics non atachment inner centered stance with letting go things beyond our control is especially usefull in this years pandemic strugless too.

Placed in regular rotation.

As a book filled with insights this is one to come back to and reread regularly. Looking for additional ways to close the gaps in a guiding principle. Much like a nightly inventory of what we did good and what we still must work harder on, this book regularly read will be easy in some areas and still require work in others. But left on the shelf without regular review we may see more challenges than less.

comprehensive

this was the best book that I've listened to on the topic of stoicism. So good that I will probably revisit this book a couple times per year.

Ego death

I used this book as an aid on my late night jogs during a break up. I have used stoicism as a means of ‘ ego-death ‘ in the hopes to get over my relationship ending. Maybe not philosophically sound reasoning but I really feel better after trudging through this book night after night.

One of my favorite books on stoicism.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The author encapsulated stoicism in a very thoughtful way. I came away with what I felt was a deeper understanding of both its history as well as the meaning. The performance of the narrator was perfect. Highly recommended for anyone for anyone who is in the mood to be “philosophical”.
