Resumen del Editor

A gripping thriller about a man’s quest for the daughter no one else believes is still alive, from the acclaimed author of The Chalk Man and The Hiding Place.

An ID Book Club selection

"C. J. Tudor is terrific. I can’t wait to see what she does next." (Harlan Coben, number one New York Times best-selling author)

Q: Why are you called the Other People?

A: We are people just like you. People to whom terrible things have happened. We’ve found solace not in forgiveness or forgetting. But in helping each other find justice.

Driving home one night, stuck behind a rusty old car, Gabe sees a little girl’s face appear in its rear window. She mouths one word: Daddy. It’s his five-year-old daughter, Izzy. He never sees her again.

Three years later, Gabe spends his days and nights traveling up and down the highway, searching for the car that took his daughter, refusing to give up hope, even though most people believe she’s dead.

When the car that he saw escape with his little girl is found abandoned with a body inside, Gabe must confront not just the day Izzy disappeared but the painful events from his past now dredged to the surface.

Q: What sort of justice?

A: That depends on the individual. But our ethos is a punishment that fits the crime.

Fran and her daughter, Alice, also put in a lot of miles on the road. Not searching. Running. Because Fran knows what really happened to Gabe’s daughter. She knows who is responsible. And she knows what they will do if they ever catch up to her and Alice.

Q: Can I request to have someone killed?

A: If your Request is acceptable, and unless there are exceptional circumstances, we fulfill all Requests.

"C. J. Tudor has done it again.... A mesmerizingly chilling and atmospheric page-turner." (J. P. Delaney, New York Times best-selling author of The Girl Before)

Page Turner for Sure!

Thrilling combination of mystery, crime, and sci fi horror. I'm quickly becoming a C.J. Tudor fan.

Enjoyable tale

Ellie Kendrick has an ethereal voice, perfect for her parts of the story. Good mystery, didn't guess some of the who done it, so not all that predictable. The few supernatural aspects of the story weren't really necessary, but didn't take away from the story. Also enjoyed the 3 short stories at the end. And as expected, a great reading by Richard Armitage.

Excellent!

Different spin but effect portrayal of unrelenting grief and injustice and how widespread the impact is felt in this ominous story. Gabe’s frustration is palpable and is felt coming through the pages. Character development is excellent and the dark ominous scenes are descriptive and visceral. Tension, mystery and suspense is ever present thru the twisty ending!

Narration was excellent!!

Tudor and Armitage Do It Again

CJ Tudor does twisty beautifully and Richard Armitage is just.. Richard Armitage. Brilliant. I'll keep it simple... Get. This. Book.

Was hoping for a better story

Compared to the previous two books, this story was a letdown. I was never fully invested in what was going on with the characters. However, I loved listening to Armitage's narration again.

Surprisingly Good

I gave this book another chance and holy am
I glad I did. The plot twists came from nowhere and it all tied in at the end. I would recommend but have patience with it because there is a lot of build up.

Creepy chilling suspense

Gabe’s wife and daughter were murdered, but he’s sure he saw his daughter alive. Why is this happening; why does nobody believe him? “Anything can be bought. If you want something done though, be willing to pay the price. There’s always a price.” Gabe’s cost was dear.

Just The Right Amount Of Creepiness

This is CJ Tudor's third novel and I consider it the best so far. It contained the right amount of creepiness without being a full horror story.

There are quite a few twists and turns in this story, and just as you think you have it figured out, something changes and you have it wrong.

Richard Armitage was brilliant. His narration and portrayal of Gabe were perfect. He kept the story going at a great pace and you could feel Gabe's changing emotions throughout the story.

The addition of the short stories was a nice suprise and enjoyable. I consider this a Must Read.

Awesome

The the story itself was pretty good however it was one of the main characters that I disliked.
The character was gabe, it wasn’t until the end that I started getting incredibly annoyed with him.

1. His daughter, Isabella is presumably dead but he refuses to accept her death. He’s okay here, nothing to get annoyed at.

2. He’s extremely persistent and is continuously pursuing any clues to prove his daughter is still alive. He’s still okay, not much to get annoyed at.

3 His daughter is alive and with Fran, a woman, who’s been protecting her. He’s angry at Fran for taking his daughter. Understandable since he doesn’t still know the real reason behind all of this. Still, he’s not too annoying.

4. Okay this is were I got extremely annoyed with him. The pieces start falling into place, there was a hit on his family for something he did years ago, someone seeking vengeance to say the least hence the reason his wife and daughter were targeted. Fran, the woman who was practically forced to open the doors to gabes home for the real killer (if she doesn’t do what she’s been ordered to, she’d suffer extreme consequences) she never intended to actually follow this order, in fact she called the police to inform them of an intruder at gabes home, when the killer arrived, Fran tried to help Gabes wife but she died anyway, during the struggle between Fran and the killer, Frans 5 year old daughter is accidentally shot and killed her, Fran manages to kill the killer and in flees taking Isabella, gabes daughter with her out of fear that someone would go back to finish the job. Fran tries to head to the police station when a car begins pursuing her, Fran fears that this might be another bag guy so she changes courses and instead of going to the police station she goes on the run to keep Isabella save, later we find out that the car pursuing Fran was actually gabe who saw his daughter and was trying to get to her.
Here’s the real kicker, after learning that Fran did everything in her power to keep Isabella safe, instead of showing some gratitude gabe is angry with her. Fran and Isabella built a bond and after Isabellas return to gabe, Fran wanted to say goodbye to the girl but gabe threatens to kill Fran if she dared come back. The reason why gabes wife and daughter were targeted in the first place was because of something awful he did when he was a teen. The reason why Fran didn’t go to the police was because he followed her like a maniac. Fran kept Isabella safe yet she gets blamed when she was just trying to protect her. Gabe can’t accept that in a way, he had a part to play in the tragedy.
So yeah, that annoyed me a lot and I just wanted to punch Gabe in the face in all honesty.

Another page turner

Like her previous books, CJ Tudor delivers a fast paced, page turning story that will keep you reading. Her stories have unexpected twists and turns. You may think you know where she is going and then she changes direction on you. The Other People is no different, this is a great story, that moves along at a steady pace, very well performed by reader Richard Armitage and Ellie Kendrick. Definitely give this audio book a listen and check out CJ Tudor's other novels; The Chalk Man and The Hiding Place.
