Historia
Both a personal and general meditation on identity and belonging, Daniel J. Siegel’s book combines personal reflections with scientific discussions of how the mind, brain, and our relationships shape who we are. Weaving the internal and external, the subjective and objective, IntraConnected reveals how our culture may give us a message of separation as a solo, isolated self, but a wider perspective unveils that who we are may be something more―broader than the brain, bigger even than the body―and fundamental to social systems and the natural world.

Nearly 70 percent of Americans are on at least one prescription drug; more than half take two. In Canada, every fifth person has high blood pressure. In Europe, hypertension is diagnosed in more than 30 percent of the population. And everywhere, adolescent mental illness is on the rise. So what is really “normal” when it comes to health?

Research suggests that the presence of the therapist, and how the therapist truly forges a connection with the client in therapy, are the most crucial factors affecting the client’s healing process. An engaged, committed, caring therapist who is mindful of his or her own self - and how that self relates to the client - is the key determinant of how well that client will respond to therapy.

A scientist's exploration into the mysteries of the human mind. Neuroscience studies the brain, but what does science have to say about the mind? A full examination of what we mean by the term "mind" has traditionally been the province of philosophers, but what might neuroscience teach us about it? How does the mind differ from consciousness? And how do we know who we really are?

When facing contentious issues such as screen time, food choices, and bedtime, children often act out or shut down, responding with reactivity instead of receptivity. This is what New York Times best-selling authors Daniel J. Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson call a No Brain response. But our kids can be taught to approach life with openness and curiosity. When kids work from a Yes Brain, they’re more willing to take chances and explore. They’re more curious and imaginative. They’re better at relationships and handling adversity.

One of the very best scientific predictors for how any child turns out - in terms of happiness, academic success, leadership skills, and meaningful relationships - is whether at least one adult in their life has consistently shown up for them. In an age of scheduling demands and digital distractions, showing up for your child might sound like a tall order. But as best-selling authors Daniel Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson reassuringly explain, it doesn’t take a lot of time, energy, or money. Instead, showing up means offering a quality of presence.

Inspired by the enormously popular introductory astronomy course that Neil deGrasse Tyson, Michael A. Strauss, and J. Richard Gott taught together at Princeton, this book covers it all - from planets, stars, and galaxies to black holes, wormholes, and time travel.

In The Quantum Universe, Brian Cox and Jeff Forshaw approach the world of quantum mechanics in the same way they did in Why Does E=mc2? and make fundamental scientific principles accessible - and fascinating - to everyone. The subatomic realm has a reputation for weirdness, spawning any number of profound misunderstandings, journeys into Eastern mysticism, and woolly pronouncements on the interconnectedness of all things. Cox and Forshaw's contention? There is no need for quantum mechanics to be viewed this way.

For all the thousands of books that have been written about religion, few until this one have attempted to examine it scientifically: to ask why - and how - it has shaped so many lives so strongly. Is religion a product of blind evolutionary instinct or rational choice? Is it truly the best way to live a moral life? Ranging through biology, history, and psychology, Daniel C. Dennett charts religion’s evolution from “wild” folk belief to “domesticated” dogma.

But theory is never enough. You also need to know how to apply the theories to work with actual clients during sessions.

In this culmination of his life’s work, Peter A. Levine draws on his broad experience as a clinician, a student of comparative brain research, a stress scientist and a keen observer of the naturalistic animal world to explain the nature and transformation of trauma in the body, brain and psyche. In an Unspoken Voice is based on the idea that trauma is neither a disease nor a disorder, but rather an injury caused by fright, helplessness and loss that can be healed by engaging our innate capacity to self-regulate high states of arousal and intense emotions.

Outstanding! Pure genius...
I am currently, at the age of 42, finishing up two bachelor degrees - one in psychology and the other in anthropology. I have also been practicing mindfulness through disciplines like Tai Chi, Yoga and seated meditation for the last 12 years.
I think Siegel has done the most holistic and comprehensive job of covering the power of being mindful, and what it means to our social relationships! There is an amazing amount of digestible information in this book. Highly recommend it! If you are NOT a student of neurobiology you may want to take some notes so as not to get lost; there are a lot of layers to what he is offering within this work.
Keep an eye on this man's work, he is onto some powerful ways of understanding the processes of what it is to be a human being.

A beautiful listen. Dr. Daniel Siegel adds depth and heart to the content through his performance. He scientific content seems easier to grasp through the spoken word as he adds nuance through his tone and cadence.

I Want Everyone to Listen to This!
Dan Siegel does such thorough, thoughtful, and mindful (:^)) job of explaining how the brain, mind, body processes information, and how past "trauma" can influence your relationships with loved ones, and everyone else. Because I'm a therapist, and I do Past Life Regressions, (I was trained by another psychiatrist, Brian Weiss, MD) I especially loved the part of Dan's lecture where he talks about the "healing" mechanism of turning the events of your life into a meaningful narrative, a story, so that a person heals fast. In Past Life Regression people see their lives from a different perspective, and that help them to "re-do" the event in their brain. And thus helps them heal their present life "traumas," because they experience them as "soul-directed" learning opportunities. Thank you, Dan! I love all your work, and ask all my clients to listen to this!!

Fascinating and profound
I learned so much through this book, starting with the technical aspects of neurobiology that the author goes into, followed by the reasoned and insightful connections he makes to the fields of psychology, education, sociology, and more. Daniel presents deeply complex topics and technical information into consumable insights through his conversational tone, his humility when making careful connections, and also through his ability to translate ideas into clear examples and practical models. I’m hungry to learn more about this topic and look forward to exploring more of his books!
