The day is like any other day until it becomes The Day. At 4:05 pm the United States is attacked with an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) weapon. A 20-megaton nuclear warhead is detonated high in the atmosphere above Kansas, blanketing most of the contiguous United States and parts of Canada and Mexico with an electromagnetic pulse that damages nearly all microprocessors and electronic controls beyond repair. Nearly every system that depends on computers and electronics has ceased to work. The electrical grid goes down. The water system goes down. The sewer system goes down. The phone system goes down. The cellular system goes down. Cars stop. Tractors stop. Radio and TV stations go dark. The Internet is no more. No more ambulance services. No more emergency services. No more government services. No more 911. In the twinkle of an eye, America is sent back deep into the 19th century.

Jill Barnes, a single mom, finds herself stranded on the side of Interstate 459 near Birmingham, Alabama. Jack Chance, a bank vice president, is stranded on Interstate 85 near Montgomery, Alabama. John Carter, a contractor, finds himself stranded near Leeds, Alabama. Each has a different mind-set and level of preparedness. Follow them as they make their decisions and journey home to Clarke County in rural Southwest Alabama.

Author's note: This is a new performance of the revised version of book one. It has been revised to reflect a first-person point of view for each chapter's main character. Take note of which character leads in the chapter title.

This is not a book on religion or religious ideology; however, two of the main characters are Christian. They pray often and acknowledge God's influence upon the events taking place. If you find praying, acknowledging God, or seeing Jesus' name used in a positive context offensive, then I suggest you do not listen to this book.

Great book!

What an great experience, felt like I was there in the event with John and jill. Highly recommend this book.

Great to listen to

I cannot begin to explain how great this book is. Great character development with Christian morals. Also, has great information that a normal person can use in unusual situations that can happen any day.

Best book of its kind out that I have found

I have listened to probably 50 similar
Apocalyptic/prepper books on the market. This is one of the best ones I have read the pace is excellent, and the story is very interesting and more unique out of all the other books I’ve read by similar authors. This one really gets into the need to be prepared in more detail than any of the others by far. Lots of good pieces of information in there. I will say this one was a little different getting used to with the characters speaking in first person but after about 30 minutes, it seems very natural and actually compliments the storyline. I have never heard any other series speak in the first person and although I was hesitant at first, they quickly grew on me. This is an outstanding read, and I recommend it to anyone.

I thought this audio book was thoroughly enjoyable. Other reviewers have panned it for the writing, narration, and constant praying. As a Christian and not being from the South, none of these bothered me. In fact, I thought they all worked together along with the 1st person rotation to make the story more fun and maybe a little "campy". The storyline was fairly typical for the genre. Note that it is VERY Christian and very much a love story in addition to post-apolyptic prepper fiction. If those turn you off, this is not for you. Otherwise, go for it. As I said, I really enjoyed it and have already purchased book 2.

An interesting storyline. I enjoyed this book. I will read again. Not a faith based story.

Almost couldn't finish

I absolutely love survival novels...however I almost stopped listening after the first chapter. The story was alright...but the readers were hard to listen to. The writing style gave me an impression that the author was new and couldn't flow... It seemed choppy. I feel bad for giving my first negative review,but I have to be honest. The premise is great and it had potential,but the voice over choices were a mistake. The character accents were noticeably inconsistent.

Irritating

the horrible impression of the southern accent it was like listening to the Dukes of hazzard's couldn't hardly get through it.

Realistic, Not an “II Become a War Chief” book

This novel is down-home wisdom with realistic characters with real emotions. The hero is good at protection, but realistically is not a “Jack Reacher.” East to follow the story with my earbuds in and working my construction job.

Thought provoking.

Makes me wonder how prepared I am and/or should be!

I love how they hold true to their Christian beliefs and live them out in spite of taking the easy or 'safe' choices.
