From USA Today bestselling author Margot Hunt comes the chilling tale of what happens when a family besieged by a storm must play host to uninvited guests.

When a Category 5 hurricane is poised to hit their coastal Florida town, the Davies family takes refuge in their waterfront manse. Marlowe, Lee, and their teenage twins invite their close friends to wait out the storm in comfort and style.

Uninvited are the three strangers who dock on the family’s shore right before the storm descends. Brothers Jason and Bo—and Bo’s girlfriend, Darcy—are a charming, helpful trio in need of a safe haven that the family is only too happy to provide.

But as the storm outside grows more threatening, so does the tension in the house.

Soon, the lines between family, friends, and strangers blur. Danger mounts with every pointed finger and broken confidence, and long-held secrets are revealed one after another until only one truth remains: not everyone is going to make it out alive.

I can’t tell if the narrator made this book dull, or if it was actually flat. There were several twists, but the narrator made it hard to get excited.

I enjoyed the narration but every part of the story could be predicted in the first few chapters.

Predictable

I didn’t hate the story, but the narration was distracting at times and completely awful for Felix in particular. I was looking forward to this one based on the premise, but I found myself rolling my eyes throughout. The characters are so dimwitted. It felt more like a YA novel. I wish I would’ve saved my credit.

Bad Narration

I like this very much however I do not enjoy this narrator. She speaks like she is reading a children’s book

Good story

Margot Hunt's "The Guests" is a gripping thriller that delves into the intricate web of secrets and lies among a group of seemingly ordinary people. The novel's strength lies in its well-crafted plot twists and the way it keeps readers guessing until the very end.

The story revolves around Marlowe, who finds herself entangled in a sinister game of manipulation and deceit. As secrets unravel and tensions rise, the true nature of each character is exposed, leading to shocking revelations that challenge perceptions.

While the plot of "The Guests" is undeniably captivating, one aspect that detracts from the overall experience is the narration, particularly for Marlowe's character. The narrator's monotone and flat delivery without any expression makes it challenging to fully engage with Marlowe's parts of the story. It takes considerable effort to acclimate to this style of narration, which can be a deterrent for some readers.

Despite this drawback, Margot Hunt's skillful storytelling and the intricacy of the plot make "The Guests" a compelling read for fans of psychological thrillers. The novel's exploration of human nature, deception, and the consequences of secrets kept hidden adds depth to the narrative, keeping readers hooked until the final page.

Overall, "The Guests" offers a thrilling and suspenseful experience, marred only by the monotone narration of the protagonist. If you can overlook this aspect, the book delivers a satisfying blend of mystery, intrigue, and psychological tension that will leave you questioning the motives of every character until the shocking conclusion.

Main narrator was hard to listen too

Awesome story performed perfectly. I will never hunker down with strangers needing shelter without strip searching them first and having weapons hidden throughout my house. Heck, I think I would probably zip tie them to the refrigerator for good measure!

You’d think being in the direct path of a Cat5 Hurricane would be terrifying enough…THINK AGAIN!

I started this book on the same day Hurricane Helene made landfall. It was interesting to read and wonder if there were real situations like this plot. I think Katrina taught us all that a major weather event offers cover for crimes. While I figured out the major plot twists pretty early, it was still a nice light read.

The book took a long time to "get off the ground," but I'm glad I stuck with it. A very enjoyable read.

Characters and story were very good.
