Rescued from a pandemic’s wreckage and raised by the eccentric surgeon Dr. Horace Croft, orphan Nora Beady cares little for Victorian conventions. While other young ladies busy themselves with needlework and watercolors, Nora perfects her sutures and anatomical illustrations.

Best book in 5 years!
The story is incredible - great dialogue and details but fast moving and engaging. It's the best book I've read/listened to since Where the Crawdads Sing. Loved each character and it's read aloud so well. I was sad to have it end.

Great story, not full of sex scenes, but emotional in so many ways. A brave, interesting, intelligent woman who cares not for the silly pursuits of women of her time, but for personal growth AND love. I would love to read more of this author(s)!

A woman had to prove herself, to be accepted as capable.
Narration was superb. Story was a bit typical, predictable and slow. There were a few interesting scenarios though to perk the storyline up a bit.

It was not predictable. It was well written and performed
It was engaging. If I missed anything, I was interested enough to go back and start prior to the missed part. I slow the tempo down to 9 so I miss nothing with the reading. The pace change feature is brilliant on Audible’s system.
