Never underestimate Heyer!

OMG! Forget about romance - this incredibly entertaining novel once past the boredom of the first two chapters, will make you laugh loud every time a new character enters the story! The conversations are beyond hilarious and thank god there is always a happy ending for all!

The nice guy gets the girl

A male voice was needed for this story which is told from the mild mannered hero’s point of view. The duke treats an assortment of “inferior “ persons with dignity, going out of his way to help them and in the process helping himself. I like it when nice people win.

The hero finds himself.

Great wit & humor, & very well performed by the narrator.
The story line & plot & characters well drawn & natural & believable.

character developement

An adventure not soon to be forgotten. Now we need a romance with the dukes cousin that went to waterloo.

Among her best!

What makes this book interesting is that the hero “Gilly“is not the usual handsome, confident, satirical HR heartthrob. Instead, he endears himself to the reader with his kindness, intelligence, and innate courage. Through a series of entertaining adventures with many twists and turns, Gilly proves to the reader, himself, and all those around him that he is eminently suited to his role as Duke.
As a footnote, apparently Georgette Heyer couldn’t resist including at least one handsome, well muscled cocky character in the form of Gilly’s dashing ((and devoted) cousin.

Fantastic fun

less of a romance than zany comedy. I want this to be a miniseries. It begins a little slowly, but it's a fun adventure.
