Being thirty-five, the oldest child, and still single is, admittedly, a little embarrassing. When my brother asked me to be the best man at his wedding, I probably shouldn’t have invited the waiter who flirted with him. It’s not as if my family assumes that maybe I’m not so straight after being single for so long, so it shouldn’t be a shock to bring a man, right?

This book has been on my tbr list for a while so when the audiobook came out, I had to give it a go. JD Tomlinson did such an amazing job by taking on Trevor and Aaron. When it was over, I only wanted more.

I love boss/employee tropes so much and this one was so good. Trevor is struggling financially and what a perfect way for Aaron for him to help him out by asking Trevor to be his date to his brother’s wedding, which happened to be his brothers idea to begin with.

The way that Aaron’s mother treated both Amanda and Trevor was just horrible and I’m so glad when Aaron told her to shove it. And when Aaron told Angelo to get lost after that whole blow up scene at the end, it was the scene I’ve been waiting for. Angelo was a douche and blamed his breakup on Trevor. Trevor did nothing wrong and Angelo should have taken his own breakup in his own way.

Besides that, Trevor and Aaron were so freaking adorable. The whole biawakening and Aaron realizing he was so into Trevor was so adorable. Even his brother knew it from the get go.

I loved Nick and Sylvia so much and if it wasn’t for Sylvia, I don’t think that Trevor and Aaron would have gotten together. And oh my, the spicy scenes were absolutely sinfully perfect.

The chemistry between Aaron and Trevor was undeniable because they wanted each other even though they tried so hard to fight their attraction. Loved every single part.

Cute and low angst story - exactly what I love!!

Audiobook - narration by JD Tomlinson was lovely with distinct voices and a very pleasant voice.


Cute and low angst - my kind of book :)

This is an age gap, boss/employee romance between Trevor and Aaron. Poor Aaron is having such a hard time adulting and trying to make ends meet - everything just seems to be going wrong! It doesn't help that his manager at work has a giant chip on his shoulder and just hates on poor Aaron. Luckily, Trevor is the boss and he swoops in to help Aaron and they end up entering into a fake dating scenario, which i always love. There's a lot for them to work out, negotiating work, family, and of course, the fact that Trevor has always identified as straight....until Aaron. They are adorable together and I loved watching them catch feelings.

Real Feelings & Fake Date

I love reading books by the amazing Joelle Lynne. The fact that I was lucky enough to not only read but listen to,The Date Mistake was an amazing experience. JD Tomlinson did an amazing job of bringing Trevor and Aaron to life. Trevor and Aaron find themselves at a point in their lives, where pretending to date would benefit them a great deal. Through the story we see how feelings developed between our main characters, how allies become friends, how friends become family. I love how JD manages to mold his voice in a unique voice for each character, it sucks you into the story on a whole new level. This is a must listen audiobook, I love reading MM books, and Joellen knocked it out of the park with this story

Amazing story

I absolutely adored this story. Aaron and Trevor are so cute together.
We get boss/employee, age gap, MM.
The narration was really good. This was the first full audio book I’ve listened to because a lot of them make me cringe (no offense to the narrator). This one was really well done!

Fun, cute story

This book has some favorites: forbidden love (boss/employee), only one bed, fake dating, age gap and queer awakening. I really enjoyed all of the characters (except for a couple obvious ones), the story was realistic and adorable, and it ends very happily. Narration was so well done, too.

It was wonderful to see the development between them, and the relationships truly reflected the joy and challenges of embracing your authentic self. The narrator brought a heartfelt touch to each scene, making the story feel alive and meaningful. A vibrant, feel-good read that celebrates love in all its beautiful forms!

Trevor and Aaron are so much fun!

JD did an amazing job! I had never read this before I listened and I'm kind of glad, it was so much fun. I loved the ride of their relationship growing! They were perfect together ❤️

Such a sweet story of struggles and Discovery

The date mistake was a great story of being true to yourself and fighting for what you want. Aaron is the owner of a pretty popular Cafe where Trevor works. Trevor is a flirt and helps bring customers to the cafe. Aaron has had his eye on. Trevor, since he started working there, but the issue is that Aaron is straight. When a proposition is made from Aaron's brother for Trevor to go along to their wedding, Aaron decides that is an idea and it would give them time to get to know each other better. Little do they know that their relationship will grow as they learn more about each other. Aaron begins his journey of self-discovery and Trevor is there to help them along the way. Trevor's good concerns start to rise when he realizes how much different their lives are and worries that he would bring Aaron down. The two men work through their differences and realize that true love is what's important. I absolutely feel adored Erin in this story and the sweet things that he did to make Trevor feel important. And there is absolutely no way that you could not. love, Trevor. The narrator was wonderful and made the story easy to listen to and enjoyable. I highly recommend this audio.

Trevor and Aaron

Oh how I love Trevor. This story is about Boss and Employee. Sweet Trevor is a waiter at Aarons cafe. Aaron is straight or he thought so until he couldnt stop watching Trevor and Aatons brother convinced him to bring Trevor to a wedding so their mother would stop hounding Aaron. Such a great read! Love this Author cant wait to see what she has for us next!

I loved that this story is full of energy and can feel the emotions from the narrator and this story will had me laughing and enjoying this very story.
