Resumen del Editor

When the star of Edric Davies' basketball team succumbs to injury, he steps up to save the day. Suddenly, Edric has the world at his fingertips; fame, popularity, even the girl. But, for a poor kid in a rich town, that just isn't how it works. In Mount Collier, kids like Edric can't have it all. He is soon betrayed, condemned to a life in Shatterly's Obedience and Drill Fraternity, the state's harshest military school. Just when Edric is ready to give up all hope, he meets Abraham Feinstein, an eccentric professor, who will bring him back from the brink. With Feinstein's help, Edric will be reborn as a weapon of vengeance, desperate to visit those who destroyed his life.

GREAT READ!

This was a great retelling of a Dumas classic. The narration was great and kept me entertained. The author did a great job with the character builds and plot. This was my first book by this author but definitely not my last! I look forward to reading more of his books. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

A YA modern take on a classic...

The Count of Mount Collier High by David Gordon is a modern retelling of The Count of Monte Cristo, geared towards a YA audience. Edric Davies saves the day during a basketball game at his high school and all of the sudden has instant status. He's popular, gets the girl, and makes some of the other students very jealous. Well, they plot to get him sent away so things can return to the status quo. Edric gets sent away and what is utterly miserable for him turns into something much different by the end of his stay. One of his Professors becomes his mentor and Edric soon sees his life changing in a way that he had never imagined. Once he gets out, he plans his vengeance, along with his newfound friend Jacob. Like I said, it's classic Monte Cristo!

David Bosco did a good job with the narration, as always. He's easy to understand and has a good cadence, etc. I'm always happy to listen to his performances. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.

great take on a classic

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was a book that is clearly targeted for a Young Adult audience, though I still found it to be enjoyable. It is a modern (High School) take on the Count of Monte Cristo story. The main character is out of place in his upscale community high school and falls pray to the whims of his "betters." Thus a mentor emerges that empowers him to take his vengeance. This book is a bit... fantastical in places, but if you take it for what it is, it is quite enjoyable. The narrator does a great job on the voices, especially Abraham. If you like these sorts of stories, sit back, listen and get lost in this modern take on a classic.
