Resumen del Editor

The year is 2023.

The world's power grids have been destroyed by a Carrington-level solar storm. Humanity is plunged into a new and savage dark age, pushed to the brink of extinction by famine, disease, and social unrest, and preyed upon further by demonic forces.

Desperate survivors turn to a divided Catholic church in search of hope. On one side there is the church of Rome. On the other, a rival papacy set up in Avignon, France. Wishing to heal the schism, but fearing that a powerful evil has infiltrated the highest ranks of the Avignon leadership, Rome sends a lone representative to assess the situation in France.

And also to cut down any heretics he finds along the way.

Exorcist Ossian McGregor, armed with the holy sword Grand Inquisitor, sets out to Avignon on a crusade with the intention to follow the stream of demonic activity to its fountainhead.

But the evil he finds far exceeds even his wildest imaginings.

The year is 2023. Welcome to Hell on Earth.

Excellent Dystopian Horror

I've said this before and I will say it again: Ambrose Ibsen and Jake Urry are a match made in heaven (or, in this case, in the fires of hell?). Ibsen always delivers a dark and haunting story and he doesn't disappoint with 'The Conqueror Worm.' This tale takes place in a future so disturbing that Ibsen thought it necessary to warn the reader before they listen. The warning was warranted.

'Conqueror Worm' follows a dark priest who's job it is to exercise any and all demons he may come into contact with. He seems to be the sole person who can save this new world from the dark forces that have taken over the church. If you like a good horror/action/thriller/fantasy then this is the book for you! Jake Urry gives a most captivating performance in this one, as he always does! I loved this book (though I think the title is more than a bit odd). 10/10

Well written story, but not for me.

I’m a die hard Ambrose Ibsen fan, but this story just didn’t have the impact his books normal have for me. It was well written, but I found myself drifting and not always paying attention. I can’t quite put my finger on why. It didn’t captivate me like the Demon Hearted series did.

WOW!

This has to be the best Ambrose Ibsen book I've read to date. I won't give any spoilers, I never do, BUT JUST WOW! Excellent writing. Extremely detailed story. Listen if you dare.

The voice of Jake Urry's is amazing as he takes you to hell on Earth.

I received this audible free and I'm thrilled to give my honest unbiased review.

Very Unique Dystopion Fiction.

The Conqueror Worm: Black Exorcist, Book 1 by Ambrose Ibsen was a unique take on the normal dystopian fiction event of a coronal mass ejection. A second event that effects the story is the division of the Catholic Church. As a Catholic, I can see a current divide in the church and where it could in a few years lead to a split like events referred to in the book. All this is a setting for a world gone dark in Europe with a divided church where people turn to after the world has gone dark for help. A Priest from Rome is sent out to see what is happening in the new conclave in Avignon, France with the new heretic Pope. This priest is an Exorcist with a dark past. I found the story really engrossing and highly enjoyable. This was different from the other stories of the authors that I have heard but I enjoyed it a great deal and highly recommend it.

The narration was provided by Jake Urry. Mr. Urry did an astounding job with all the character in this book. There depth and range of characters showcased his skill in this performance.

The apocalypse meets the exorcist

We have seen zombie apocalypses, nuclear apocalypse, alien invasions and more. This is a tale with a similar thread but quite unique with hints of what's been seen before. Technology is no more, mankind is plunged into a new dark age. Nuclear meltdowns have tainted the land, hell has come to earth and the demons are inside the people. The only hope for mankind is the last true church and the man known as the black exorcist. Get ready for an amazing story written masterfully and narrated perfectly. Written for a low budget movie?

I received a free copy of this book from the author / narrator / publisher in exchange for an unbiased review.

When I had received this book, it had several glowing reviews and one negative review. I figured I would give this a try. Sad to say that I have to agree with that negative review.

The book had a very good premise, a totally different post-apocalyptic setup, something that we haven't seen in a long time. I was hoping that this will be a good start to good series. But the way the author handled it, it leaves me very disappointed. There is no character build up at all. The story jumps from one monster fight to another within regular intervals; as if those are written as movie scenes. If you convert this book into a movie, you'll get several scenes with gritty battle sequences, that might be good entertainment on a lazy Saturday. But these didn't quite work in book format. I wish the author had spent time in developing the characters more and given them some solid backgrounds and emotional touches to make the reader connect with them. Without that, it feels very disconnected.

The narration is sub-par too. Almost all characters are voiced in the same way. And no infliction / emotion during different scenes. It's just like reciting the book, line by line.

Thankfully I had received this book for free, hence didn't have to spend a credit on it.

Take the author at his word.

At the start of the book, Ambrose warns that it's going to be a dark story, and he wasn't kidding. While the book takes place in the future, the world has pretty much been blasted back to the dark ages, and aside from the occasional reference to modern day things such as Call of Duty and the occasional gun it really does feel like a medieval story. The story revolves around a priest fighting against the forces of evil, and to me it had a very Solomon Kane feel to it.

This is the first time I've heard Jake Urry narrate a book and WOW. Hope he doesn't take this as an insult because it's totally not one, but he has a voice for horror. There is just something about his voice that reminded me of Vincent Price and it felt perfect for this story. Definitely someone I will listen to again in the future.

The time of man is ending!

The earth is embroiled in chaos since a Carrington-level solar storm struck, sending us back to the 18th century. Irish Roman Catholic Priest Ossian McGregor roams the wastelands on his quest to Avignon, France. Rome has sent Ossian to investigate an office of the Church appearing in Avignon. Evidence has come to Rome that Avignon has become the Seat of Hell on Earth. Ossian with his blessed sword Grand Inquisitor has been commissioned to destroy any evil he finds. He will also remove any infected, either viral or demonic, that he encounters along the way. Ossian has been haunted by the exorcism of two children gone wrong ten years ago. Traveling through the city of Bologna, Italy Ossian is confronted with sacrilege and blasphemy. Catholic rites performed by the basilica priest are corrupted and overseen by a figure cloaked entirely in black. This is Ossian’s crusade and his potential demise. The time of man is ending. This is the beginning of Ossian’s story and his trials in the city of Bologna. Jake Urry provides a fitting atmosphere for the story; wonderfully spooky in its own right.
