Once it takes hold, it never lets go...

Like an illness, fear spreads. Healthy minds are withered by paranoia. Can anything stop the contagion?

A peculiar tablet unearthed in a Middle Eastern ossuary provokes madness in those who encounter it. One by one, people come under the tablet's sway and are subjected to horrific visions and dreams. In time, the tablet's true purpose becomes clear: It is the harbinger of an eons-dead god whose reemergence will steep the world in terror and suffering. Having put the pieces together, two men race against the clock and attempt to disrupt the terrifying work of an ancient cult.

Wretchedness is a full-length novel of supernatural terror by Ambrose Ibsen.

I cannot say enough good things about the work of Ambrose Ibsen. His stuff is just right up my ally - sophisticated and satisfying paranormal stories and "Wretchedness" was by far the best one yet! This story had several interweaving plot lines that made for a complex and interesting listen. Not only that, but the paranormal concept was one I hadn't come across before (which is pretty impressive seeing as almost every instance of "ghosts" has become a total cliche). I won't say anymore for fear of spoilers. I will say, though, that if you are even vaguely interested in paranormal stories, you should really give "Wretchedness" a shot - it's absolutely fantastic. Jake Urry is phenomenal, as always!

Would you consider the audio edition of Wretchedness to be better than the print version?

Definitely the audio is better as the reader has the perfect voice to creep you out and make your skin crawl!

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the dreadful feeling of waiting for the horrible things to happen as the reader was getting to the scary parts.

Which character – as performed by Jake Urry – was your favorite?

Can't decide. He did them all perfectly. I could picture them each in my mind.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Definitely. Once I was in "the zone" it was hard to do anything else.

Any additional comments?

The absolutely PERFECT reader for this chilling tale.

Most Creepy Book Ever!

Typically I like Ambrose Ibsen and Jake Urry. Scary tales with a spooky voice. Jake does a great job but I didn't really care for the story. I hope it was me and not the story but I didn't find myself interested in it and often thought where is this going. Most of Ibsen stories are haunting but this one didn't hold my attention or spook me. The story was unique and I appreciate that.

I am a fan of Ibsen, but this book was super weird. It had its creepy moments, but like I said was super weird. This book was hard for me to enjoy and finish.

Wretchedness

Another scary, edge of your seat thriller that's full of suspense for the listener. This book held me in its grip to the very end. Please keep the " Wretchedness" away from me.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Jake Urry voices this genre excellently!

This may not have been his best but absolutely enjoyed it. Loved the characters of Solomon and professor Hagon. The book is about an ancient evil tablet that in stows madness and fear into anyone who comes near or in contact with and needs elderly women to survive. It is scary and full of horrific action. Narration made it even spookier. Recommend to anyone who enjoys supernatural/paranormal and highly recommend author’s new series of the Afterlife. This audiobook is worth listening to. This is a genre
I enjoy and this was one of the better ones. The only fault is that the book ended abruptly. It’s as if the writer got tired and wanted to quit. In my opinion, if he spent less time on all the descriptive elements, and more on a fleshed out the ending it would have been five stars.

The story line is good. The narrator is okay. But the book is too wordy. I found myself zoning out and missing most of what was said. When I rewound, I found I had missed nothing. Good listen if you're multi-tasking.

Exorcist meets...I don't know what but holy jesus this book kept me up. I had to turn it OFF and keep a nitelite going for days after.

Beware of old ladies and freaky mysterious artifacts.

The narrator is beyond compare...adds to the fright.

This author does amazing ghost stories I mean stuff this out of this world. This is not one of those books. This book is what the result would be if the exorcist in the Cthulhu Mythos had a baby. Take an ancient artifact imbue it with the evilness and the drive of a lost cult and their evil God. Everything it touches everyone it touches his imbued with the wretchedness. One unlucky vessel will become the embodiment of that lost God Heaven help us all if they can't stop it. A great story wonderfully written and amazingly narrated.
