Acerca de esta escucha

The Hunger Games meets horror in this unforgettable thriller where only one thing is certain...you will be Called.

Thousands of years ago, humans banished the Sidhe fairy race to another dimension. The beautiful, terrible Sidhe have stewed in a land of horrors ever since, plotting their revenge...and now their day has come.

Fourteen-year-old Nessa lives in a world where every teen will be "Called". It could come in the middle of the day, it could come deep in the night. But one instant she will be here, and the next she will wake up naked and alone in the Sidhe land. She will be spotted, hunted down, and brutally murdered. And she will be sent back in pieces by the Sidhe to the human world...unless she joins the rare few who survive for 24 hours and escape unscathed.

Nessa trains with her friends at an academy designed to maximize her chances at survival. But as the days tick by and her classmates go one by one, the threat of her Call lurks ever closer...and with it the threat of an even more insidious danger closer to home.

Lo que los oyentes dicen sobre The Call

Con calificación alta para:

The Story Revolves Around A Unique And Imaginative Premise Where Irish Teenagers Face A Terrifying Ordeal Known As "the Call," In Which They Are Transported To A Mythical Realm Inhabited By Malevolent Fairies And Must Fight For Survival. The Narrative Draws Heavily From Irish Folklore, Weaving It Into A Dystopian Society Where The Characters Must Undergo Intense Training To Prepare For This Harrowing Experience. While Praised For Its Vivid World-building, Engaging Storytelling, And Compelling Protagonist, Some Readers Found The Pacing Slow, The Characters Underdeveloped, And The Plot At Times Superficial With Loose Ends. Overall, It Blends Fantasy, Horror, And Coming-of-age Elements Into A Dark Yet Captivating Tale That Explores The Clash Between Reality And Myth.

Left me feeling empty!

I have never left a review before but feel it is my duty as an avid reader and listener to share. This book.... wow. This book. It was horrifying, funny, disgusting, sad, surprising..... there are just no words to describe the experience it gave. If you are a listener, a true listener of horror and dystopia, get this book! The premise of this book is one that I think about daily. Years after my first listen. It will chill your blood and prick your heart and get you thinking at the same time.

Irish lore and culture comes through strong.

This book was lovely. The writing style was a little different, but enjoyable. The characters were memorable and the story intriguing. The reading was done with Irish accents that really helped drop you right into the story. I definitely recommend it.

Amazing...Even the second time through

The narration is phenomenal, with a variety of Irish accents and more. The narrators’s own lilting voice is really a treat.
Yes, it is a dark story, but beautifully imagined and executed. The smattering of Celtic lore and Irish history only adds further depth.
Seriously, don’t start unless you have time to binge.

A year later, listened again after giving up on another book and desperately needing something to get through a road trip. It is still amazing. I love the pacing; other reviews claim there is no character development and it feels jumbled. Strongly disagree. I think it is just more elegantly and efficiently handled than in so many other fantasy books these days. Third person unlimited might just be too much for some brains to handle.

Brilliant storytelling

Nearly perfect, there were a few small hiccups in the performance near the end, but overall, the story and performance were outstanding.

Good enough for a road trip

A worthy purchase. An easy listen that entertains both adults and teenagers. I also enjoyed Amy shiels as the narrator. She has a pleasant voice.

Triumph!

A really unique take on tales that shape whole nations… the characters have you cheering them on, and in the end, there’s a triumph and a sadness that are on par for the whole book.

Give me Suki, Katniss, WW but not this boredom

This book has an interesting premise, but it was not able to keep my attention. At the end of the day, I did not care for the humans so the antagonists, Sidhe, were rendered ineffective, and don't even get me started about Conner, what in the name of all vampires and supernaturals was that about--Just like this sentence, it makes no sense.

I feel like Hunger Games, Suki Stackhouse, Mercy Thompson! and other books have been able to approach similar issues with an original twist and better character development. I still think of them like long lost acquaintances. I even wonder, "hmm, what might they be doing now." I predict this book is going to fade from my memory and live in the far corners of my subconscious, along the side the horrible silk shirts I wore in the mid 90's.

Sincerely,

The recently uncurious

PS: However, If you decide to read this book, I hope you can find the care and curiosity I seemed to lost by chapter 4.
