Lillian and her father avoid capture by the Nazis with the help of a real-life hero.

It is 1939 in Berlin, Germany, and 12-year-old Lillian and her Papa are on the run from Nazi soldiers. Because they are Jewish, they are in danger of being arrested and put in prison. Lillian’s father is blind, and it seems no one is willing to help them - until they meet Otto Weidt. Mr. Weidt runs a factory that makes brushes for the Nazi army, and his secret is that he employs blind Jewish workers. Lillian learns that Otto Weidt is determined to keep her, Papa, and all the Jewish workers safe. But will he be able to?

Inspired by a true story.

BEST STORY EVER

This book was so great especially because so much of it was true. At almost 40 I still love middle grade historical novels because they do a far better job of humanizing the life experiences of people then dry boring textbooks. Books like this inspired me to get degrees in history and to become a teacher and, being 100% blind my entire life I loved this story so much because I never knew that this happened.

It was books like this that inspired me to get multiple degrees in history

The narrators voices for the different people were a little annoying. This is a great story for young readers who want to learn more about the Jewish experience during WW2 without the gory details.

It's difficult to review this story from the time of the holocaust. The content was thin, I felt the main characters should have had more investigation from the author in order to portray their story.
The narrator's voice was irritating, was very disappointed overall.
