But when Eva realises she is pregnant, she fears she has endangered both their lives. The women promise to protect each other’s children, should the worst occur. For they are determined to hold on to the last flower of hope in the shadows and degradation: their precious children, who they pray will live to tell their story when they no longer can.

Good basic WWII fiction

The narration was good and that’s half the battle sometimes. The story is tragic and beautiful. And truly brings you into their world. It was easy to listen and engaging. I wasn’t bored or tired of listening. Some of the pieces were very easily tied up which might not seem exactly like it would’ve happened. But it didn’t make the story less enjoyable.

A very compelling heartfelt story of love loss and suffering . It was very well written and composed. Thank you for sharing this heartfelt story with the world. I thought it was an amazing piece of untold history.

Heartbreaking

My German friend asked me why don’t we “just get over” World War II; Germany has. I firmly believe something is wrong with German culture to participate in and then “get over” the War. This illustrates the kinds of depravity done in the 1930s and 40s—but most of the population participating in one way or another. And it told the effects of people housed in concentration camps. (Why did she KEEP mentioning the gods? They were overwhelmingly bullies.)

Uplifting in spite of everything!

I have read quite a few excellent books on World WarII. While very realistic had a different feel of unrelenting hope. The indomitable human spirit at its best. An excellent read!

Beautiful not overwhelmingly depressing.

I thought this was going to be really heavy and hard to listen to all the way through. It was actually a beautiful story and of course had the reality of Auschwitz, but was not overwhelmingly depressing. It focused more on the relationships between people with the back drop of Auschwitz. I will read this author again. I got this on sale, but would pay a full a credit for this and will for this author in the future.

Excellent Story

It caught my attention from the first page until the last. Unique story on a very horrible part of WWII history. We must never forget.

Excellent book.

This was well written and the narration was excellent. A story of resilience and perseverance in the face of extreme adversity that gave me hope during the pandemic of 20-21.

10/10 would recommend
