Resumen del Editor

The grounded, clear-sighted guide you need to blend digital and traditional business functions for long-term competitive advantage.

Business leaders are continually told they need to embrace digital disruption wholeheartedly to thrive in the 21st century. Legacy companies, we hear, are all doomed to fail unless they double down on the latest digital innovations, and disruptors are ordained to take over the world. Digital innovation is the answer to everything.

False! Nothing in life or business is ever that simple.

In The Brains and Brawn Company: How Leading Organizations Blend the Best of Digital and Physical, venture capitalist and Stanford Business School lecturer Robert Siegel brings the digital innovation conversation back down to earth. He shows that, while important, digital is only part of the answer, and it’s never the only answer. The vast majority of successful leaders from both incumbents and disruptors focus as much on things like logistics, manufacturing, and distribution as they do on digital innovation. In fact, many established companies are successfully countering young upstarts in other creative ways, and many new organizations are learning from their older brethren.

Filled with original research and case studies of Daimler, 23andMe, Instacart, AB InBev, Google, and many other companies, The Brains and Brawn Company: How Leading Organizations Blend the Best of Digital and Physical provides practical, proven insights and advice for bridging the gulf between digital vs. physical, disruptor vs. incumbent, start-up world vs. Fortune 500, and tech culture vs. industrial culture.

The Brains and Brawn Company: How Leading Organizations Blend the Best of Digital and Physical provides everything you need to set your company apart from your competitors in real and measurable ways - and take the lead in your industry for years to come.

A great workout for your Brain and must read for digital transformation leaders

I have known Robert Siegel since 2016 as an Industrial thought leader in Silicon Valley. His new book is filled with practical examples of successful business models and benefits of the balance between core and new business models with transformative technologies. Practical examples from CEO conversations and class learnings from Stanford Business school are awesome. Loved his references to “Amygdala”“Prefrontal cortex”, “Inner Ear” to describe technology (brainy competencies) and “Spine”, “Muscles”, “Stamina” to describe companies with strong core and brawny competencies.

As a successful P&L and Digital Innovation leader, I highly recommend “Brians and Brawns company” to any leader passionate about creating enterprise value and profit with digital transformation, AI, and Internet of Things / Industry 4.0.

Loved the book!

I loved the book: interesting, insightful, and vital for business strategy decisions nowadays. Already knowing most of the companies certainly helped my learning process, since I was able to combine the lessons with my personal knowledge about the firms and straighten my synapsis. Great to see that Prof. Siegel has also “walked the talk” wisely bridging the analogic world and the new digital reality during pandemic.

Good read about tech biz meets traditional biz

The theme of this book is technology meets classic industry. Auto manufacturing , tire manufacturing, pharma, and a few other case studies are revied using a b/b framework where adding technology to an existing mega corp was able to being big changes. All brains is bad, so is all brawn. Companies must find balanced approach that works with their culture. Interesting story telling style,
