Resumen del Editor

Working for the man upstairs stinks, but working with Samantha, an angel in training? Offensive!

Only one thing is so powerful, so dangerous that Heaven and Hell must work together to find it: The Shard of Gabriel.

With a mysterious black cloud of death hot on the shard's trail, a desperate Heaven enlists the help of Bartholomew, a demon who knows more about the shard than almost anyone. Six years ago, he had it in his hands. If only he'd used it before his coup to overthrow the Devil failed. Now, he's been sprung from his eternal punishment to help samantha recover the shard before the black cloud of death finds it.

If Bart wants to succeed, he'll have to fight the temptation to betray Samantha and the allure of the shard. After an existence full of evil, the only way Bart can get right with Hell is to be good.

Instant Classic!

Bartholomew is a demon from the seventh circle of Hell. When he’s brought back to Earth in a human body, he’s not sure why. When he’s contacted by Samantha, an angel-in-training, he’s tasked with a mission to find Gabriel’s shard before anyone else. The resulting adventure takes Bartholomew and Sam to high school where they must play as undercover teenagers. Turns out high school is hell after all.

This book…there are so many awesome things to say that I’m not sure where to begin.

Bartholomew (don’t call him Bart!) was definitely a character. He had such a big personality, it could hardly be contained. He was snarky, a jerk at points, but he was loyal and confident. More than once I laughed out loud at the things he did or said or thought. He is definitely one of my favorite fictional characters I’ve come across in any book this year.

His counterpart, Samantha, was just as interesting. As an angel in training, the banter between her and Bartholomew was just priceless.

I would love to see more of these two. Even though this audiobook is over ten hours long, I finished the book wanting more. This is one of the best paranormal books I’ve read in a while and the author is definitely a new favorite.

The narrator made Bartholomew’s snarky attitude pop even more, and I loved it.

The Book of Bart

An angel and demon working together. That can only lead to lots of laughs. A unique story filled with devilish adventures.

I enjoyed the narration and the voices, but there were repeated sentences and that's very frustrating for a listener.

Very Entertaining Demonic Comedy

Bart is a demon whose been suffering punishment for a failed coup of hell. Part of why he failed is he had the Shard of Gabriel and didn't use it. Now Heaven is enlisting his help to find it and someone so used to being evil needs to be good. But this is a comedy, so that's all kinda flipped on its head a little bit. The characters have more going on, the setting and events are at times laugh out loud funny and everything stays entertaining throughout as we watch our protagonist walk a fine line he was created to completely ignore. Narration was done well as well.

Good Story

This was a good book. Funny, interesting, good character development, and narration. A must for those that like supernatural comedy/mystery. I look forward to book 2 and to see how much these characters grow. I am officially a Bart Fan lol

An amusing stroll through familiar territory

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

It's on the tip of my tongue. I can't remember the name of the story, but it involves a rogue demon teaming up with an angel against his will in an attempt to recover a divine artifact that could cause chaos in both heaven and hell if it were to fall into the wrong hands. Along the way they attempt to blend in with mortals, clash with other celestial beings and unwittingly draw a handful of mortals into their quest. Also there's a ton of witty banter between the two leads who begin the story hating eachother but over time grow to at least tolerate if not respect one another.

If you were thinking Dogma, Good Omens, Small Gods or Gods Behaving Badly while reading that previous paragraph you should add The Book of Bart to that list. It's a worthy addition too as the writing is generally pretty snappy and it doesn't wear out its welcome. One odd thing to note is the style of prose used here makes the book seem like it was originally written as a screenplay as the descriptives used outside of Bart's seething internal monologue read as if they were meant to be intepreted as stage directions. This is a bit odd, but doesn't really take away from the experience, especially due to Ryan Pater's narration absolutely nailing 'angry resentful demon' and so much of the humor arising from the banter between the main cast.

The one thing that did irritate me were the presence of 'jokes' where the entirety of the joke is bringing up the concepts of rape or other similar shock topics. These are coming from a teenager in-narrative and while teenagers do talk like that (and I'd make a case it would even be appropriate if you were attempting to make the character offputting or crass) in this case it just seems like an attempt to be edgy, which comes off as grating. Thankfully this only happens a couple times but it's still a bit jarring.

An angel and a demon

The Book of Bart is hilarious and entertaining. Mix in one angel and one demon and a caper for good what is the worse that could happen? I was on the edge of my seat laughing out loud I could not stop listening I had to hear what else they were going to get into. Ryan Daniel Later narrator was excellent he really made the book come alive. I loved the characters and the plot. The storyline was beyond funny and well written.

Okay, where do I start

It was well written, the grungy voice was annoying wish there were more voice actors I have never enjoyed one person making multiple voices all sounding the same.

what's the audience though? it's really sexualized, there's nothing wrong with that, but mature themes on a high school? majority of everyone being 16 years old? it's odd reading/listening to such sexualized content among 16 year old children, but maybe this is a norm but it makes me cringe

story was pretty well written some slow points a few things didn't make sense, but this book did not offer anything new nor take any risk.

3/5 still better than a lot of things by the way NEVER touch bart's suits if you know what's good for you ;)

Fun Twist with Some Predicatable Moments

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and all opinions expressed herein are my own.

I am really more at 3.5 stars for this book. The premise of this book is not new - a demon works with an angel and their love/hate relationship. There is some wit to this book - some of it, to me, was bit off-putting [jokes about rape?]. Additionally, this takes place in a high school - although neither the angel nor the demon behave as teenagers - much more adult. Overall, this was a bit of fun twist with some very predictable moments.

The narrator, Ryan Pater, did a good job. However, there are repeated phrases and sentences littered throughout the book which were not caught during QC.

Sinfully delectable

The only bad thing I have to say is that Bartholomew is a little bit to predictable, over all fun read and I will be looking into the other books!
