Resumen del Editor

Tibetan Buddhist practice isn't just sitting in silent meditation, it's developing fresh attitudes that align our minds with reality. Includes three new translations of Atisha's source material.

In this book, B. Alan Wallace explains a fundamental type of mental training that is designed to shift our attitudes so that our minds become pure wellsprings of joy instead of murky pools of problems, anxieties, fleeting pleasures, hopes, and frustrations. The lojong—or mind-training—teachings have been the subject of profound study, contemplation, and commentary by many great masters. Wallace shows us the way to develop our capacity for spiritual awareness through his relatable and practical commentary on the mind-training slogans.

Clear, concise, compassionate

B. Alan Wallace presents a clear understanding of Tibetan Buddhism for Western practitioners, including the similarities between Western science and Tibetan Buddhist philosophy and beliefs. Lojong practices are explained with a minimum of Tibetan terms. At all times, Lama Wallace’s kindness and wisdom are evident.

Another Essential Summary

Another essential synopsis of a Tibetan Buddhist classic by Alan Wallace done with brevity, wit and humor.

Excellent for training in Buddhism

I particularly resonated with the description of how to handle people that cause you to feel anger or resentment. Although, not at all an easy practice, I totally appreciate and accept the guidance.

Not as good as I was hoping it would be

I consider “Genuine Happiness” to be Wallace’s best work along with his series of guided meditations that can be listened to on sound cloud or purchased as a CD or MP3 from the SBI website. Wallace’s guided meditations are flipping awesome. So I guess I had high expectations. The Art of Transforming the Mind didn’t have the kind of immediate applicability to meditation practice I was looking for. It has more of the endless commentary of many other meditation books where I reach the end and can’t think of the important takeaways or how to apply them to improve life. Still, when reading or listening to Wallace I occasionally catch that moment of lucidity with a great idea or technique hidden amongst the usual labyrinth of dharma babble. I can tell Wallace put work into this and it’s not bad, just not his best either imho. I would rather have Wallace narrate the book himself but the narrator was ok. I wish Wallace would release his SBI catalog of meditations and retreats on the Imagine Clarity App so I could listen to them without paying thousands of $$$.
