Both astonishing and prophetic, The Abolition of Man remains one of C. S. Lewis's most controversial works. Lewis sets out to persuade his audience of the ongoing importance and relevance of universal objective values, such as courage and honor, and the foundational necessity of natural law. He also makes a cogent case that a retreat from these pillars of our educational system, even if in the name of "scientism", would be catastrophic. National Review lists it as number seven on their "100 Best Nonfiction Books of the 20th Century".

It amazes me how the writings of CS Lewis can be applied even more today than when they were first written.

Thought Provoking

I struggled through this read until I had it read to me. It was still difficult to understand as C.S. Lewis was definitely a brilliant writer. I had difficulty with his circular arguments as sometimes they just did not make sense. In the end, it is a good book just a difficult argument regarding moral and objective values as it pertains to education.

Douglas Gresham is a good narrator as he helps to get through it without putting one to sleep.

Lewis’s greatest book

A concise, reorienting critique of modern philosophical trends and worldviews which since the time of this writing have in many ways come to fruition. He implores the reader to consider the practical consequences of a departure from objective morality, values, and truth.

Me calling this work a short critique of the overly-critical may sound like an oxymoron, especially to the overly-critical. Why am I not calling it a critique of education or of science? Precisely because C.S. Lewis did not consider it such. To him, the extremes that he described in the essays were, at best, dim echos of what they were imitating. He hoped, as should all who agree at any level to the viewpoints brought up here, that by shining light upon the erroneous systems the lovers of right and true growth can somehow win some ground against. Whether it has done that is a discussion that should probably be saved for a different time, but however it has gone, it is always good for those who know the truth to try a little harder. No, that does not mean to try to force in any way, but simply to keep putting it out there, showing why it is right and allowing others to choose for themselves.

CS Lewis gets to the heart of several issues afflicting modern society. Between subtle indoctrination in school curricula to the dangers of microagressiins, he eloquently points out the dangers and the practices quite simple and clear terms.

As prophetic is 1984

This packs power.
Lewis is a bonafide, truth seeking intellect assessing with clarity where we stand today in our human condition.
That is, concerning mankind in it's quest for control in the march through history.
It is intellectual, a full attention read, and I advise for the average man as myself, a follow up read as a must to really lock it in.
Read it and gain wisdom of understanding.
Very well read and quality production. TRUTH
