Resumen del Editor

A propulsive and chillingly prescient novel of suspense and terror from the Bram Stoker Award-winning author of The Cabin at the End of the World and A Head Full of Ghosts.

“Absolutely riveting.” (Stephen King)

In a matter of weeks, Massachusetts has been overrun by an insidious rabies-like virus that is spread by saliva. But unlike rabies, the disease has a terrifyingly short incubation period of an hour or less. Those infected quickly lose their minds and are driven to bite and infect as many others as they can before they inevitably succumb. Hospitals are inundated with the sick and dying, and hysteria has taken hold. To try to limit its spread, the commonwealth is under quarantine and curfew. But society is breaking down and the government's emergency protocols are faltering.

Dr. Ramola "Rams" Sherman, a soft-spoken pediatrician in her mid-30s, receives a frantic phone call from Natalie, a friend who is eight months pregnant. Natalie's husband has been killed - viciously attacked by an infected neighbor - and in a failed attempt to save him, Natalie, too, was bitten. Natalie's only chance of survival is to get to a hospital as quickly as possible to receive a rabies vaccine. The clock is ticking for her and for her unborn child.

Natalie’s fight for life becomes a desperate odyssey as she and Rams make their way through a hostile landscape filled with dangers beyond their worst nightmares - terrifying, strange, and sometimes deadly challenges that push them to the brink.

Paul Tremblay once again demonstrates his mastery in this chilling and all-too-plausible novel that will leave listeners gripped throughout the audio and shake them to their core.

OMG!

This book! it's kinda rough to read at the moment because we're actually living in the middle of a pandemic and Paul gets sooo much right. probably my favorite book by him so far except for one of the short stories in growing things. some people may need to wait a little bit to read this one but it's definitely something worth reading. thanks for another great story Paul!!

Meh.

Struggled to finish. Mediocre writing and narration. Not terrible but I would pass on this book.

Surprised, I was disappointed

i heard lots of great reviews from big names, but this book wasn't that good. The book itself was way too wordy. i think the audiobook is longer than the actual time of the story. This would've been better if there was a bigger story over telling every little detail about everything.

A Novel Experiencing an Identity Crisis

What the ____ did I just read? Mere moments of traction in an otherwise out-of-control, tumbling, cartwheeling, car crash of a story.

I’m a fan of Trembley’s other work. I hope this is a rare miss in the author’s otherwise pretty solid catalog.

Well Read ... Fast-Paced

From the start to the finish, this story set in a time of pandemic (not related to our current situation) moves at a fast pace right up until the end. You live the tension with the characters and you feel what they feel, especially Rams and Nats. Many similarities with what is really happening for a book written well before the current virus. Recommended !

Starts out strong then doesn’t land

I love some of his previous works, this falls in the middle. I don’t love the narrator, she struggles with male voices as with most narrators who swap their voice for the opposite gender. Men struggle with female voices as well, and this wasn’t as bad as his last book but it kept pulling me out of the narrative.

I was totally hooked in the beginning, impressed with how it connected with the pandemic. But it just became this small, walking dead style road trip that lost me. I also didn’t like the ending and wished it had stopped before we heard about the Fairy Tale vs Songs

Politics ruined it!

I really enjoyed his previous books and was enjoying this one. The diatribe on the militia and various other political subjects really turned me off. They could have been included without sounding like a lecture or a soapbox sermon no one really wants to listen to when your escaping into a fictional book. Otherwise it was pretty good.

Disappointing ending and political pandering

I thought the approach and style of the book was quite novel, but the after a large build up, the ending seemed rushed. I couldn't help to get the feel that the writer was trying to work in some anti-Trump and Patriot-type extremists to try and pander to Hollywood in the hope of getting the book optioned into a movie. It didn't really serve any substance to the plot and just felt like it was inserted gratuitously. Not a bad read, but could have been better. The narration was excellent.

Good book

Good book. Kept it interesting all through. A book , for 10 hrs in a life was really cool way to do it.

Only the authors political views are not needed. I don’t need political views from an author unless it’s part of the book. You can tell it was not
