Resumen del Editor

Stoicism is an ancient Greek philosophy which teaches the development of self-control and fortitude as a means of overcoming destructive emotions. It does not seek to extinguish emotions completely, but rather seeks to transform them through logic and reason, which enables a person to develop clear judgment, inner calm and freedom from suffering (which is considered the ultimate goal).

This book will guide you through the origins and teachings of Stoicism, through direct quotes and experiences from its founding fathers. In this book, you will learn:

  • What Stoicism is and where it comes from
  • The principles and beliefs of Stoicism
  • How Stoicism is applied to health and wellness
  • How to effectively control your emotions
  • How to begin implementing Stoicism into your life
  • How to improve any situation with Stoicism
  • How neuroplasticity applies to Stoicism

I have to share this book!

This book takes us on a journey starting with the beginning of stoicism and going on into its relation to cosmology, theology and psychology. It touches on the view that the world is a unity. We all have everything to do with the cause and effect that brings our world to where it is today. We all have a purpose and duty to the place that we live

So-so

It was very hard to listen to this as the reader was very monotone and the material very dry. If you can get past this, then it is a good introduction, but I would recommend you Google this information. You don't need this book to get started.

Rambling and Dull

The book seems poorly organized jumping from talk about neuroplasticity to the generic advice to "go for a walk" on ocassion to clear the mind. The piece definitely portrays stoicism in a better light than I've seen before. There are plenty of great insights into the philosophy and a few good insights into life.

The book also seems to rambling and conversational. Maybe that's the narrator's fault. I liked Jon Turner's performance of a job advice book, but it felt like his casual delivery and dull inflection undermined this book.

Nothing to gain

If you are looking for a quick explanation of what Stoicism is, then this might be your thing. But if you are looking to expand your thinking, this is not the right book. What was missing was a conversation about the applications of stoicism and how it applies to you today. There was mention of this at points in the book, albeit brefily, but not enough to overcome the book's lack of depth.
