Classic D&D without dice rolls

Loved it. Reminded me of an awsome Dungeons and Dragon adventure of long ago.

Delightful Forgotten Realms Story

Overall this wasn't a bad story by any means nor was it any greater than the first two books in the Lost Empires series.

I personally feel the going back and forth in time made it give away some of the stories suprise and intrigue. Although I understand the need to tell what happened previously was crucial to understand what was happening in the present I feel it could have led to cool story telling moments.

During certain times in the story I was waning interest in the story as some parts were dull and a rehashing of what was previously learned the chapter before.

My gripes aside it has all the elements of a Forgotten Realms story and was overall a delightful yet somewhat disturbing story.

Enjoyable Book for a Forgotten Realms Fan or Any Other Nerd

Nerd me up...nerd me down. I read this book when I was about 17, right after playing Baldur's Gate (a very popular PC game of the 1990s). That game introduced me to the Forgotten Realms universe and this book bolstered my interest in that franchise without making me feel like a "noob." Over a decade later I am pleasantly surprised to find that it is still an entertaining tale that is well written. Its not Hemingway, Shakespeare, or [Insert Classic/Groundbreaking Author of Your Choice Here], but it is solid entertainment with better character development than I expected. I appreciated the author's reliable format of alternating chapters from one time period to the other. I'd write more positive comments but it's 3:09AM and I'm sort of drunk.

P.S. When I sampled the audio for this book I thought the guy's voice sounded super annoying. After an hour or so of hearing him I no longer felt that way. He's pretty good at altering his intonation (or whatever it's called) to enunciate different emotions as well as different characters.
