Nicodemus is a young, gifted wizard with a problem. Magic in his world requires the caster to create spells by writing out the text...but he has always been dyslexic and thus has trouble casting even the simplest of spells. And his misspells could prove dangerous, even deadly, should he make a mistake in an important incantation. Yet he has always felt that he is destined to be something more than a failed wizard.
When a powerful, ancient evil begins a campaign of murder and disruption, Nicodemus starts to have disturbing dreams that lead him to believe that his misspelling could be the result of a curse. But before he can discover the truth about himself, he is attacked by an evil that has already claimed the lives of fellow wizards and has cast suspicion on his mentor. He must flee for his own life if he's to find the true villain. But more is at stake than his abilities. For the evil that has awakened is a power so dread and vast that if unleashed, it will destroy Nicodemus...and the world.

I would say this book trying very hard to take the reader through in a magically word a great deal of the pain and frustration a reasonable successful person with dyslexia go through from about high school to mid university.
Actually the magic pretty good too.

What made the experience of listening to Spellwright the most enjoyable?
I enjoyed the book but it required me to push past the first few chapters. If I was reading this I'd have set it down 20 pages in. I wasn't until the author finished building into the spell system, onslaught of descriptions, and I understood how the spells worked that I started to enjoy the book.Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite character was the demon. The way he tried to reason and nearly seemed caring. What about Kevin T. Collins’s performance did you like?
I'm not sure if it was part of the book or not. The narrator spent a small amount of time reading and then spelling out the word letter by letter. It wasn't a long time but he did it in a way that never once bugged me. I was never distracted from the story. Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I was excited about the lost languages. I wanted him to give a finger to "The Man" and be like "I pull words off my skin."Hate/Love

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would recommend the book to fans of High Fantasy, with lots of politics, and requiring some mental investment. What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
I like the idea of a dyslexic wizard in a word where magic relies on reading and writing in multiple languages. However, the language angle also distracts from the action at times. The many factions also mean you need to be paying close attention to follow the audio edition. Was Spellwright worth the listening time?
I liked the book, but I think it might be better read in print instead of listened to. Of course, your mileage may vary.Dyslexic Wizard in world w/ Magic through Language
