When the bookshop next to the Honeybee Bakery hosts a signing for a Savannah radio celebrity's new self-help book, magical baker Katie Lightfoot is happy to provide some delectable desserts. The whole spellbook club is going to the event, curious about the book (and maybe to sample some goodies), but the final chapter comes too soon for the author when she is found dead at the event. The prime suspect is Angie Kissel, a former witch whose familiar was once Katie's own terrier, Mungo. Katie is at first hesitant to help, afraid of losing the little dog who has become so important to her. But after a little nudge from Mungo himself, Katie decides to try to conjure up the real killer - before Angie gets served.

Good writing, narration, plot & perfect mix

On book 6 & reading all of course, talented writer with research/knowledge of Savannah/low country history as well as Wiccan and voodoo (I am a Lowcountry generations born & bred) plots are good with enough suspense and clear understanding of why she’s in the middle of many, not just the “all of a sudden the main character finds herself and her small town overrun with murders when there’s no history or reason” - nice tie in for Katie’s involvement.
I am only...hmm, “upset” isn’t really the word but find myself confused about the 2 men in her life - not that I want anything bad to happen to her and D but OMG the “destiny” repeated and sparks between her and S - sigh how I wish that was eventually going to come to light, without the heartache of D losing - wow, I’m better at words than that but trying not spoil much and get my point across at the same time. I mean, spells bells, I was even jealous FOR Katie, when Samantha was in the picture with S ! And was all about sending her off to another plane....
Well, guess we can’t have it all, I do highly recommend this series, especially for escaping our own almost unrecognizable world today - good for all ages and looking forward to more!!
Oh, FYI to your proof readers/editors:
1. Writer in Honeybee was early on called Martin as real name not pen name, now called Arthur as real name (“movie error”)
B. Early book states Lucy and Ben were married for 30 years only later to state 10+ “met later in life”
3. A few other little errors but not like the ones above - sorry it’s my OCD and stupid memory lock, but thought you should know

Fun and Entertaining

I can always count on the books in this series to be fun and entertaining. I look forward to the next book.

Keeps getting better

Bailey Cates’ Magical Bakery series just keeps getting better with every installment, not stale as others I’ve read/listened to seem to. Amy Rubinate, as always, gives a wonderful performance as she brings it all to life.

Really loved this book along with the rest of the series! can't wait for the next one!

Fun story, but...

I've listened to all of the stories in this series so far, but do have an issue with one (pretty major) aspect of the murder on which the story is based. The victim was discovered shortly after she died, and was pronounced dead by a fireman/paramedic/first responder, who never even thought to start CPR and call 911. Bailey, really?! You don't have to have a medical background to know that this is very standard procedure, everywhere. The only people who I am aware do not get CPR these days, are those who are hospice patients with a signed DNR, or people who are stone cold with rigor mortis or decay already setting in. That scene was ludicrous to me, but other than that, it's a typical fun read. The reader did her usual good job.

Fun book with recipes

This book is one in a series by Bailey Cates and I always look forward to the next. Before picking up a copy to read make sure you have eaten. The description of the food is mouth-watering but the recipes are in the back of the books even though, I have to admit, I have not tried any of them. This is another good book in the magical life of Katie who adds a bit of magic to all she bakes. She is really coming into her own as a shop owner who has a taste for solving mysteries. The supporting characters and “book club” also lend a lot to the plot. Although a series all of the books can stand on their own and are great cozies.

My favorite of the series thus far!

This installment starts out with a book signing event at a near by bookstore that the HoneyBee has provided refreshments for. Of course you predict a crime will occur that Katy and crew will need to solve. The introduction of a new witch, and the marital crisis of Margie add some spice to this volume, as well as some unrequited love and some romance. Can’t say more without spoiling the story.
Read it/listen to it. The narrator is very good with the accents and different gender voices, and has been consistent across all the books thus far. She really adds to the enjoyment of the plot and character enrichment.

Another good story

Once again Bailey Cates delivers a good story. keeps you interested and entertained. I love this series.

Who Done It.

This is the first book i have listen to by this author. I got the book as part of the 2 for 1 sale and i am glad i did. Even though it is a book 6, i had problem following the story line. The book was very well written and Amy Rubinate did a great job with narrating. I look forward in going back and getting the first 5 books.
