Roger Stringer grew up in rural Mississippi, hunting and eating everything from deer to rabbits. When he had two sons, Zac and Justin, he gave them guns and took them to the woods as well. Then one day when the boys were home alone, he got a call from Zac that Justin had been shot.

What follows is an intimate and gripping memoir about the shooting’s aftermath. The story moves between the perspectives of Roger and Zac as they take us through their journey of betrayal, redemption, and ultimately confrontation with a company that had kept its corruption a secret for decades.

About the Creators and Performers - Roger and Zachary Stringer

About the Creators and Performers

Roger Stringer grew up hunting and fishing in the Mississippi woods, and he taught his sons Zachary and Justin to do the same. He works as a crew foreman on a power line construction crew. Zachary Stringer holds a degree in social sciences from William Carey University. Both men have served as advocates for more transparency in gun manufacturing since tragedy struck their family in 2011. This is their first Audible Original.

This is a very sad and heartbreaking story but it was a good read. Informative with a good ending.

What an amazing true story of two brothers whose worlds fall apart in a split second. Leaving a mother and father devastated. Not to mention the fact they are in the middle of a divorce. One son dead, the other ending up in prison. How do they face their lives in turmoil. But a father continues his quest to find the truth.

I just could not believe that Zachary’s defense attorney and team would not have investigated and found the previous problems with Remington’s faulty trigger release without actually pulling the trigger. This information was online before 2011 when this tragic accident occurred. How did they not investigate their clients claim that the rifle fired on its own?? Just such a sad true story.

I hung on every word by Roger and Zach. What they experienced, what they learned, how they grew and used it to educate others is so powerful. My husband has inherited guns and they are locked in a safe. You can believe I will make sure their are no Remington’s anywhere in our home.

Rodger and Zack you both did a great job telling your truth. The emotion behind your life story made this book so much more then it already was. I will recommend this book all of my 2A family, friends , and acquaintances. At the very least they will be made aware of the defect. Thank you both for speaking out.
ps I could listen to both of you talk all day, maybe a career in narration could be in your futures?!?!


I also wanted to write a review so the review written 7 hours before mine was pushed down a little. Maybe they were having a night cap, or don’t read titles and book details. Reviews should be facts, and honest.
