An international bestseller and one of the Times's "Top 50 Novels Published in the 21st Century," Claire Keegan's piercing contemporary classic Foster is a heartbreaking story of childhood, loss, and love; now released as a standalone book for the first time ever in the US

It is a hot summer in rural Ireland. A child is taken by her father to live with relatives on a farm, not knowing when or if she will be brought home again. In the Kinsellas' house, she finds an affection and warmth she has not known and slowly, in their care, begins to blossom. But there is something unspoken in this new household—where everything is so well tended to—and this summer must soon come to an end.

Winner of the prestigious Davy Byrnes Award and published in an abridged version in the New Yorker, this internationally bestselling contemporary classic is now available for the first time in the US in a full, standalone edition. A story of astonishing emotional depth, Foster showcases Claire Keegan's great talent and secures her reputation as one of our most important storytellers.

I fiercely loved this gorgeously written novella. Listen to it twice; it’s that wonderfully written. Keegan is one of my favorite writers.

Beautiful and devastating story

I watched the movie, The Quiet Girl, an Oscar nominated International Feature from Ireland. The movie is about a little girl living in rural Ireland who is sent away to stay with relatives temporarily. The movie is captivating and I wanted to read the book, as well. This is a very short book and captures the story in an intimate manner the way books tell a beautiful story.

This was wonderful, but I am not sure how it ended! I had hoped the story would clear up the ending shown in the movie version, but alas, it was the same. I will hope for the best!

This short audiobook drops us into the summer of a 9 or 10 year old girl, sent by her parents to stay with an aunt and uncle, previously known to her. The relationship between these 3 is ultimately transformative for all of them. Lovely details of rural Irish life

Another little gem from Claire Kegan

Powerful and heartbreaking. A story that wont soon be forgotten. And I'll listen to this one again and again.

Perfection

Keegan is a brilliant writer of the short story. The narrator’s delivery of the young protagonist’s lines are also convincing without distracting from the adult conversations.

A master of the short form
