ANOTHER GREAT STORY IN THIS SERIES…

Just like all the other books in this series, I really enjoyed “So This is Christmas.” I have yet to read a Kay Bratt book I DIDN’T enjoy (and I think I’ve read just about every book Ms. Bratt has ever published)!

Taylor Hart’s life is complicated. She’s a new mom to her daughter Lennie, she’s Sam’s wife, her sisters are making her crazy and she’s on medical leave from the police department after nearly dying while on the job. Taylor’s slow recovery is making her restless and annoyed. She misses the action of work…

There is a gruesome murder of a much-loved local family on Christmas Day and Taylor is frustrated to not be part of the investigation. Taylor is divided (as so many mothers are) about whether to return to work early to help with the investigation, or to remain home recovering and enjoying the first few months of her infant daughter’s life.

As always, there is plenty of family drama, primarily with Taylor’s sister Lucy, who has always been a problem child. Lucy is just as wild and unpredictable as always.

Although it was no great surprise who murdered the family of four on Christmas Day the plot wasn’t all that deep), who murdered the family, I enjoyed the characters in this book and how they interact with each other — there are lots of complicated family dynamics.

The one thing I really DISLIKED about this book was the NARRATOR. I’ve complained about her in other reviews in this series. The narrator’s intonations make me grind my teeth! She raises her voice where it should be lowered and almost every sentence sounds like a question. It’s disconcerting and unpleasant to listen to (IMHO).

Despite the narrator, I recommend this book and I’m very much looking forward to the next book in the series.
