Resumen del Editor

Sherlock Holmes is bored between cases at 221B Baker Street. So when King Oskar II of Sweden - who has heard of the discovery of the Kensington Runestone by a farmer in Minnesota - asks to engage his services, Holmes jumps at the chance to decipher the runes and determine whether the find is real or a hoax. With Dr. John H. Watson by his side, faithfully recording every detail, Holmes makes his way to Minnesota for a third time. But, in the first of many strange and unfortunate coincidences, the farmer who found the mysterious stone is murdered, and the stone itself is stolen on the day the famous detective arrives.

With the help of one Shadwell Rafferty, now a friend and partner, Holmes must solve this baffling case to find both the stone and the murderer.

True to Style, but Thought the Plot was Slow For a Book Length Story

Relative good original Doyle style, though not as MacBird and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Mostly, well fleshed out and interesting characters who are the high point of the book and the primary ringer to keep you reading to the end. Plot is not that great, which is common in the original short stories, but is a noticeable downside of a novel length story.

Another great one!

Millett really does weave fantastic tales for our favorite detective. The Narration by Steve Hendrickson forces me to believe his voice and acting talents should be on display far and wide. He makes me want to listen instead of read the books myself. Well done! I cannot wait for the next!

Totally delightful Sherlock Holmes story

There are a number of authors competing to write continuing saga's of Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock and Dr. Watson in America series has been an awesome addition. Great stories, true to Sherlock Holmes logic and writing style. Totally worth the read. The narrator is also really good with telling the story. Kudo's to both the author and the narrator.

What Happens Near "Sock" Centre Stays in ...

Would you consider the audio edition of Sherlock Holmes and the Rune Stone Mystery to be better than the print version?

Haven't had the pleasure to read the Kindle or Print version. There are a lot of locales, names that may be more discernable in those formats. Thus the title for my review. lol!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Well, Holmes and Watson, but the whirling cast of locals are a hoot!!!

What about Steve Hendrickson’s performance did you like?

I enjoyed the performance by Steve Hendrickson. I laughed out loud of his portrayal of character named Larson. I waited for him to utter something along the lines "Well, Pilgrim".

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did laugh. The situations peculiar to the region are realistic. The historic and geographic references, walk on parts of famous people relevant to the time frame were fun for this listener!

Any additional comments?

Uff-Da! I enjoy this series! YaBetcha, dontcha know? Skol!! A strong four lutefisk rating...So Head Up North when the thermometer rises!!!!

Thank you for the opportunity to review it!

This review copy audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost. I am happy to give my honest review of it.

Larry Millet Sherlock Holmes books (no canonical)

The Miller series of Holmes and Watson are the best that I have read of the "noncanonical" nature. The characters, including Rafferty, as a friendly collaborator and "competitor" with Holmes, as well as the story lines stay true to Conan Doyle. The narrator is perfectly in character and dialects.

Best in series!

I think this was the best in the series so far. When I started it I wonder how poor Sherlock would fare. He suffer much abuse in the previous books. He came out relatively unscathed and the mystery was made most charming with the addition of Rafferty. It was a very good story and was a pleasure to listen to. The narration is wonderful.

Adorable characters and great minnesotan atmosphere

I loved my first encounter with the trio Holmes, Watson and Rafferty. This detective story flows nicely and it is dotted with mr Rafferty’s savory remarks. Hendrickson’s imitations of Swedish American accents is amusing. The suspense keeps you engaged to the end, but my reason for 4 starts for the story is that the ending was not as unexpected an revealing as I would have liked.

Sherlock Holmes on steroids!

As if it weren’t enough to have both the masterful storytelling of Larry Millet and the extraordinary performance of Steve Hendrickson, you get the intrigue and genius of Sherlock Holmes and the expansive breath of fresh air and expertise of Shadwell Rafferty all at the same time in the same story working the case this time in the far reaches of Minnesota and beyond. A great epic where we find Holmes, Watson and Rafferty pitting their wits and at times stamina in a complex, expertly drawn mystery with no holds barred energy and commitment to their case, and at times a heartfelt connection with characters they interact with along the way. A true delight!
