Steamy Romantic Cozy Mystery

She doesn't Have a Clue is a steamy romantic cozy mystery which I really enjoyed as a change of pace. I generally prefer closed door scenes but the characters, humor and plot kept me hooked. Kate Valentine is a bestselling mystery author who is invited to a fancy island wedding. Her editor and ex-fiance Spencer is getting married and her one romantic regret Jake Hawkins shows up. Things are awkward and get worse when the bride is poisoned and Kate finds a dead body. This is a locked room cozy mystery with the group being on an island in a bad storm with the suspects being relatives and guests. I really liked Kate and Jake's banter, relationship, and how they work together to find the culprit. Kate's book character is Loretta Starling and Kate frequently ponders what Loretta would do in different situations which adds humor and insight to Kate. I suspected the culprit but wasn't sure. The book moved at a good pace, kept me entertained, and was really enjoyable! The audiobook's narrator Sarah Mollie Christensen does a fantastic job with Jake's Australian accent and all of the various voices. The Protagonist

I thought this book was going to be funny. It wasn’t. The author chose to paint her as stupid, in stead of clever. It became an endurance test. I was relieved when it finally limped to an unsatisfying end.
