fascinating

I love these history audiobooks and this one did not disappoint. There were a ton of facts in there about the Scandinavians that I didn't know, and I listen to all sorts of history books.

Dry

I picked this up because I listened to Norse Mythology, Magic, and Romance by this same group and really enjoyed it. I was hoping for the same, but this is dry history with references every few sentences that really break it up.

Pretty good brief overview

First up, for folks looking to learn a little about the older history of Scandinavia, this is a good start. It covers the early years fairly well while providing a very brief overview of more modern times. I would not quite call it "comprehensive," however. But for those interested in Vikings, it is a good start. Of note, many technically see Finland as Nordic, but not Scandinavian, though they do explain this in book, rather than what the title might suggest.

The narrator has a very soothing voice, though there are some odd pauses in different places. Be very aware that this book is researched and the narrator reads the in-line references just as they would appear in a printed text. It was fine for me, but some might find it distracting. Overall, it was a good way to learn and remind one of a little bit of history of a part of Europe that is often overshadowed by the standard European powers of the continental states plus GB/I.

Interesting overview

Scandinavian History is an good introduction to the subject of the Scandinavian people. Although it is in no way a comprehensive historical book, it is a compelling overview. Jack Nolan’s narration is very good.

Bizarre narration cadence

Highly distracting narration with narrator speaking fast, then pausing, then speaking slowly or normally. Repeat. Made the book quite difficult to follow.

Good introduction

Very good introduction to this regions history. A very quick short & enjoyable listen that'll start you in the right directing for more study. Narration & peace were good.

Taught Me Some New Things!

As someone who didn't know a lot about Scandinavian history coming in, this audiobook definitely taught me a lot. Thanks for making it!
