Would you try another book from Adam Chester and/or Adam & Joan Chester?

I didn't mind his mom reading but I really didn't like the way the book was written. He sounded ridiculous and he kept adding stupid production tricks to make it more interesting instead of writing better

Has S'Mother turned you off from other books in this genre?

It is not a great representation of the genre. There are so many great comedy biographies and unfortunately this should have stayed as a blog

What didn’t you like about Adam & Joan Chester’s performance?

It was corny. The story didn't flow nicely and he was more focussed on vilifying his mother than making an interesting story.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

It mostly disappointed me. Crazy moms are usually hilarious but this book felt like it was a great Twitter feed that should have kept to the 140 character format. The book had good bones but horrible follow through

No.

Would you recommend S'Mother to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes and no. There is no doubt that Mrs. C is certifiable. Honestly, the humor of her letters could have stood on their own. Which is probably a disappointment to both Adam and Mrs. C. Him because his mother actually outshines him (sorry!). And her because she never intended for her letters to be funny.

What does Adam & Joan Chester bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The audio version is probably better than the written version because she actually reads her insane letters herself. The fact that she's willing to repeat her words and probably still stands by them (Adam - when WAS the last time you got a tetanus shot?) makes it even more hysterical. Mrs. C - you can stop buying traveler's insurance. It's another scam. I heard about it on CNN.

Could you see S'Mother being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

I think it already was. It was called, "Everybody Loves Raymond."

Make it stop!! (the whining by the author)

I bought this to listen to one a two hour drive. I kept thinking it has to get better, but at the end of the drive I was happy to turn it off with no intention of finishing it. Two hours of this guy going on about how horrible he mom is was more than enough.

He continually tells us how crazy she is, but he didn't prove that to me. Yes, her letters are random, but not worthy of the ridicule and disdain he exhibits for her. However, he certainly proves to me he is a whiny, self-involved jerk. He basically forces his mom to move across the country and then has the gall to ask her if she is happy. But wait, it gets worse! He then goes on to include a letter from her in which she explains why she isn't happy and he makes fun of her for this.

More than once, I thought that maybe I was missing the point, maybe he was really making fun of people who make fun of their parents and blame them for everything.

What I now believe is he is trying to cash in on the popularity of S--- My Dad Says.
1. At the beginning of the book he says something like "no, Mom, I don't know when this will be made into a motion picture and stop asking."
2. The letters from his Mom are read by his Mom. That in itself seemed a bit odd to me, but what added to the sense of "fakeness" was the couple of times during the reading of these letters, it sounds like she is trying not to laugh.

If everything in this book is true, I have much more sympathy for the mom than her son who needs to get over himself. Does this man have any capacity for empathy?

sure, there are some amusing situations and moms can worry- but the author seems to be overly dramatic and whining on alot of things. oh no your single widowed mother wants the best for you? tragic
