Resumen del Editor

The truest stories are written in blood.

The wanderer knows this, for over the last century he has lived those stories, has seen them scrawled in his blood or the blood of others.

Others like those dead Perishables scattered about the noble’s courtyard, like those servants of the enemy, mortal and not, lying beside them.

And yet…he knows it is only the beginning.

They are coming.

Servants of the enemy, creatures forged and fashioned for one purpose and one purpose only—to kill anything in their path. And now their path leads them directly to the wanderer, to the Perishables, and to the family he has sworn to protect.

The story is not yet finished.

There is more tale yet to be told, and more blood needed for the telling of it.

The cursed blade has been unsheathed, the lone wanderer wanders alone no longer.

A hundred years of hiding, of running, but now it’s over.

Now, the real story begins.

And the blood will flow.

Requiem for a Soldier is book two of the best-selling epic fantasy homage to westerns, The Last Eternal, by Jacob Peppers. It is the tale of one man, known simply as the wanderer, as he sets out to keep a cursed, magical blade from the hands of the enemy. It is an action-packed, character-driven story of one man's quest to save the world, a quest which will pit him against all manner of warriors, monsters, and magic.

Great cat and mouse which ends in a surprising way.

I have enjoyed the first and now this book. I can tell you; I know the main character isn’t going to die but it does make you worry about the other characters. A story of cat and mouse with an overwhelming evil.

Too Many Deus Ex Machinas

I’m a fan of some of Jacob Peppers and the wonderful narration makes this series especially tempting. But this particular novel has a lot of Pepper’s flaws and fewer of his strengths. I enjoy the fantasy dime novel style sometimes, and the charisma of the seven virtues hero is hard to resist. But in this book the main character went into certain death 3 or 4 too many times. Was saved by his horse 2 too many times. And I would suggest the author lean into the wisdom the main character would have gained living 100+ years instead of showing his humanity time and time again. Most readers love a wise character. This book felt preachy. I’ll take a break from his books for a while and would recommend a different series. But it’s more than possible that this book is an outlier, I mostly enjoyed the first!

pretty enjoyable with some flaws/taste difference

so the start for me felt a bit like a rehash. in my opinion the start felt a bit slow and not that different from earlier conflict. the enemy creatures were the same 2. once the characters go to a new place and face a newer enemy it makes it more interesting.(maybe that's just me wanting novelty) me personally I would have liked more time spent in the village building a connection to the wanderer and the red haired girl I think that would have helped the audience feel more when things went wrong. even just a day or more simple less violent problems to overcome I would have liked. For me the high lights are still the wander and the families interactions. the wanderer seems to get saved a lot and in often a similar song and dance him thinking he will die accepting it then getting saved. Not enharently bad but can bring one out of the spell of the story.I think it lowers the stakes if every fight the wanderer thinks he will die but then doesn't it just makes me not realky believe him. I would really like to learn more about this enemy. them just being called the enemy and even the enemy basically referring to themselves as that idk they just seem to lack an identity(maybe the intention because they stole theirs). I do think it a bit odd that the creature calling himself soldier showing up alone felt like a dumb thing for them to do but later might be explained. my theory initially was that these creatures taking the eternals places all indicidualy want power and inside their ranks its a bit like the forsaken in wheel of time fighting each other indirectly for power and favor maybe that's just me thinking it would be interesting and would be something that could lead to their downfall because the theme seems to be people working together and if the enemy does not it works as the opposition to that view. there was line in the first book that made it sound like each eternal craved out a piece of the human world as their kingdom. Over all I did enjoy it but I think some of my issues come from preferring longer slower books maybe wheel of time and the farseer trilogy being 2 of my favorite. but I really enjoyed the first book again because I really like the Charater dynamics. if anyone actually read this far thanks for reading my rambling hope it was of some help. you have a good day

A great story continues

Really enjoyed this installment, just wish it was longer! I'd also like to know more about the Youngest. What did he look like, how did he become an Eternal?
