Cynthia Albrecht, the executive chef of the Penske-Marlboro racing team and darling of the IndyCar circuit, went missing on October 25, 1992 - the night before her divorce from Michael Albrecht became final. Drivers and racing crews from across the country converged on "The Brickyard", site of the Indianapolis 500, to help search for her.
As the head mechanic for the Dick Simon racing team, known as “Crabby” across the race circuit, Michael had a reputation for bullying and abuse. He'd immediately become a suspect in Cynthia's disappearance. But with a strong alibi, there was nothing authorities could do when he decided to take a vacation to Florida and skip a scheduled polygraph test and the search for his estranged wife. Nor could law enforcement charge him when Cynthia’s body was found a few weeks later in northern Indiana - minus her head. The case went cold for six years until a newly elected prosecutor allowed his deputies to charge Michael Albrecht with murder. But would they be able to prove his guilt?
This true crime legal thriller written by one of the prosecutors, Larry Sells, and journalist Margie Porter, runs at full throttle and will leave you on the edge of your seat right up to the checkered flag at the final verdict.

The life of a lovely, young and vivacious women was cut short because her husband couldn't face rejection.
But she had a world of friends and loved ones who were committed to seeing justice served.
I love courtroom drama and this has a lot of it.
Very well researched and written. Narration was very good as well.
I listened to this one right through. It kept my interest the whole time.
True crime at it's finest.
I was given this book by the author or narrator at no charge for an honest review. Thank you!
I will look for more from these authors. My first listen by them.

Excellent experience

First off the author does a great job of giving life to the characters, and making me feel as if I had some sort of connection to them. I truly cared about all three women and wanted to see the other two get justice for their friend.
I took one star off the story because I felt that relatively little time was spent on the investigation outside of the very lengthy discussion of the trial. The trial stuff got to be a bit of a boring format after a while, and I think it would have been engaging if the story was a little more balanced rather than a lot of background, a quick investigation, and then over half of the book seemingly dedicated to the trial.
Overall an interesting listen that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys true crime!

If you want to hear about a true grisly murder in great detail, then this murder mystery is for you.
The narrator was interesting and grew on me as the story unfolded. At first, he seemed slightly stilted and reminded me of the sportscaster Curt Gowdy. However, his straightforward delivery did lend itself to objective sharing of case details.
Sad but true
