Acerca de esta escucha

A shocking true crime story of sex, greed and cold-blooded murder! Veteran true crime author Gary C. King spins a gripping real-life tale of a woman caught in a deadly web of lust and violence...a riveting story of love gone horribly, tragically wrong.

Kathryn Ann Martini graduated from Yale with a bright future in the banking business. Young, beautiful, and ambitious, she had everything going for her. Until she met Michael David Lissy, the sleazy proprietor of a scuba diving school who was a coke addict that consorted with pimps, prostitutes and other known criminals. Burned out and broke, he had nothing going for him. Then he met Kathryn...a match made in hell.

On July 6, 1984, the raped and mutilated body of Kathryn Martini Lissy was found in room 305 at the Valley River Inn in Eugene, Oregon. Soon afterward, police arrested Michael David Lissy, Kathryn's husband of one year. A few months earlier, Lissy had taken out a large insurance policy on Kathryn's life, naming him as sole beneficiary. Then he hired an underworld assassin to stalk and kill his wife. After one of the most sensational trials in Eugene's history, Lissy was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Book was ok, got confusing at some points but for the most part was a good true crime book

Was ok.

This audiobook was a fascinating look at how real detectives work their way through a murder investigation to find the culprits of a crime. Set in the 1980's we learn the convoluted process that occurred, and to some degree the amount of luck that was involved, in solving the murder of Kathryn Martini-Lissy. Sex, drugs, prostiutes, fraud, greed and a web of lies made this case a sensation in its time and it was only through the insightful, dedicated work of those involved in the case that justice was served. Scott Bennett did a great job of the narration, keeping the story moving forward and creating interest with his voice without being distracting. The true nature of the crime and the details the of police procedure made it very interesting. It is a well put together true crime story that is told without any judgment on the part of the author. I received this book at no cost and under no obligation to review

Great true crime story

Would you consider the audio edition of Murder in Room 305 to be better than the print version?

Haven's read the print version so can't say.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Murder in Room 305?

How Lissy got away with so much for so long.

What does J. Scott Bennett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Excellent narrator!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No. It was an excellent listen though. Mr King did an awesome job of telling this story. Just enough details but not too many to make it boring.

Any additional comments?

I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.

Kept Me Listening!

When I received this book, I didn't realize it was a true crime story, as was first put off at the fact that it was set in the past. Once I realized it is a true story, it made more sense. I'm horrified to think that someone that depraved actually walked this earth, but, I am sure there are many more out there. The writing in this story is more like a documentary being told with some conversations, but not much. That being said, it was VERY well written and kept me interested from start to finish. I certainly did not get bored.
I actually listened to the audiobook version. Scott Bennett did an exceptional job of the narration. He has fantastic inflection in his voice so that when there is just commentary/narration being read he keeps one's attention. Not once did I drift off listening or get bored listening. Scott's ability to create voices for the characters and make them so distinct that you know who is speaking without being told is also an exceptional talent.
I would recommend this book, whether audio or not, to anyone who enjoys true crime.

Very well written true crime story

What a sad, shocking story of a man who thought he deserved to have it all at any cost. I really enjoy this audio, the start of it was a little slow. The author give great details with not a lot of filler. My heart goes out to the victims (there are more than one victim here) and their family. This man effected so many peoples lives over the years. I really wish something more could have been done to him. The author lays the facts out giving you a compelling story with so many twists and turns that your head almost spins.

I thought the narrator gave true emotions, great character voices, you always knew who was talking and what they were feeling. Character voices isn't really something you see in true crime narration but it sure does help bring the story to life. It makes it feel alive, making you almost think you are there. The narrator knows how to bring the listener in pulling on their heart strings. There was no repeating of words, no volume changes and no background noise. It really was a very nice clear audio the you really get into.

I thought this was a good listen and will listen to it again.

Shocking but great listen

I found the first part a bit slow, but the compelling main character kept me listening and well before halfway I was itching to find out what was going to happen to the characters. Kept me on the edge up to the end.

Room 305

Awful and amoral spouse arranges for the death of his young wife for her life insurance because he is a lazy unsuccessful slob who spends his cash on hookers. The story was well done and detailed but seemed to move a little slow partly due to the narration. The narrator seemed to come across as older than Lissi and had an accent that didnt quite fit in Oregon.

If you could sum up Murder in Room 305 in three words, what would they be?

Interesting police procedural

Which character – as performed by J. Scott Bennett – was your favorite?

Michelle Owens. Strange, but I liked his portrayal of her quite a bit

Any additional comments?

J. Scott Bennett was a great articulate narrator and the story was simply intriguing to listen too. I look forward to more from both of these men in the future.

Well done!
