Resumen del Editor

Eight months after the astounding discoveries made at Fermilab....

Particle physics was always an unlikely path to the stars, but with the discovery that space could be compressed, the entire galaxy had come within reach. The technology was astonishing, yet nothing compared to what humans encountered 4,000 light-years from home. Now, with an invitation from a mysterious gatekeeper, the people of Earth must decide if they're ready to participate in the galactic conversation.

The world anxiously watches as a team of four katanauts suit up to visit an alien civilization. What they learn on a watery planet hundreds of light-years away could catapult human comprehension of the natural world to new heights. But one team member must overcome crippling fear to cope with an alien gift she barely understands.

Back at Fermilab, strange instabilities are beginning to show up in experiments, leading physicists to wonder if they ever really had control over the quantum dimensions of space.

Fairly fun read, but not great. Narrator too...

This book is pretty good, fun, but has some lightweight parts. Weaknesses.
What I struggle with is this narrator... She does a good job overall, but virtually all the male voices, at virtually all times, speak in this constantly annoying minor tone, in a thrusting-lunging sort of rhythm, often sound, amongst other adjectives (besides unrealistic and unnatural) gruff, short and angry, sullen or brooding--or just simply like rude pushy jerks or assholes!
She is, sadly, very annoying to listen to as there are quite a few male voices. I have listened to her before and had the same problem. Please study and improve on your impressions of men's attitudes, tone, sound and manner of speaking!

An intriguing mystery and sci-fi adventure.

A great sci-fi book based solidly on real science. In fact, a good premer on quantum mechanics. Be sure to catch the author’s remarks on the real science and construction of our universe home.

Great story to follow up the first book!

I am thoroughly enjoying this book series both in content and writing style. I did like the original reader better, Traci does a great job reading female voices but her male voices are all monotone and hard to discern between in my opinion.

A worthy addition to the genre.

I enjoyed the characters and the universe built by the author. While this story line wraps up nicely there is room for a sequel. The blend of real physics and imagery physics is well done. I will certainly purchase the next book if there is one. The narrator is good and does add a bit to the story. Overall well done.

I learned a lot and was exposed to a lot of ideas

Loved the book. A worthy successsor to the first one. The encounter with Kor was memorable, as was the confrontatioin with the dancers. Her losing the headband was a story by itself. Their escape from the quantum space was harrowing. All these are gems of storytelling.

great story, fun follow-up to quantum space

overall I enjoyed the story. as a physicist I found it a little hard to accept some of the more outlandish claims, but that doesn't take away from the story... it is science fiction after all. I went in wanting to be entertained and I want disappointed.

Phillips makes Physics Phun for the Second Time!

I'm just a regular gal who loves science based novels. Phillips has delved into quantum physics with delicious vigour! Really enjoyed the fictional journey based on solid physics.

A disappointment...

This book was a departure from the first one in that it really has nothing new to say. The plot was contrived and trite. The narration was horrible. It is never a good idea to change narrators mid-series, but the narrator's vocalization of male characters sounded like a person with a severe cold. The characters were "out of character" as compared to the previous book, which isn't hard given their thin background. I simply feel as though the plot was weak and the decisions of a great many of the characters were ridiculous. In the end I wouldn't recommend this chapter of the story.

God is good as the other two

I really enjoy the stories about quantum physics. although I'm not a physicist. I really enjoy the concepts and ideas presented in the stories. this one however I did not like. I'm not sure if it was the narrator or the storyline. but I can definitely say I did not enjoy the narrator.

Mostly disappointed a little bored

Mostly disappointed. I sincerely wish for more fiction based in real science, and this delivers from that aspect. But like the first book in the series the characters are cartoon characters I don't particularly identify and the writing is weak.

I absolutely hated the narration, her characterization was very distracting. Reminded me of my mother reading me a story and doing different voices.

I won't be waiting for the 3rd in the series.
