Uh, really unprepared for chi rejuvenation technic

First time introduction to author Jace Kang and found his writing quite good. The MC's backstory is well-defined and making an interesting one to follow. There are others who are handicapped or held back in their society and who the MC finds promise in their latent cultivation abilities. As such, he decides to allow them to join him on his quest and train them in the hidden art of cultivation. Then, there is an almost anime quality introduced where the extremely-advanced society is suddenly attacked and murdered by of all things, yokai, seeking to absorb their victims essence. The story and protagonists progresses in a somewhat cultivation-expectant manner until something completely left-field occurs, immediately advancing the novel from a YA genre to adult material!

Still, the story as a whole is still entertaining and I intend to continue with the series, not least of which is due to Travis Baldree supurb narration performance.

Good story will there be a spin off?

Let's give Travis a round of applause for this masterful performance. He definitely contributed positively to the story.
Storywise this is definitely a pg 13 and up book. Overall I was incredibly invested in the well being of the 3 primary characters (there is another that isn't really one but close). The Xanxia, sci fi(little fantasy), and cultivation novel is ridiculously good and not as complex as you would think. The pacing is good, plot points well thought out and resolution nice. Character development was funny at times. I definitely got a few laugh in the early start of the book.
This book is one of the few that I've read recently that had absolutely great sex scenes that make sense to the story and isn't forced or awkward. In fact it's straightforward and bold as brass. Lower ratings must be virgins and yes even as a gay man the story was arousing.

Can't recommend this enough.

seriously..... blended si fi and cultivation perfectly. such a visual masterpiece Jace does it flawlessly!

A different take on cultivation

awesome book. different from the other cultivation books but in a good way. Fast paced, great narrator, but my only complaint is that this seems to be a standalone book instead of a series at this point.

This was a great book, not just a cultivation story but also Engages us to ponder the future of humanity and what role transhumanism will play in humanities future, downfall and survival. Machine vs. spirit.

a light and fun story.

It's definitely worth the credit. sometimes it's nice to listen to a book and have it actually end not go on for 15 books.

Good Book

I like the idea of the systems in this book. It reads like there should be at least a second book and not just a stand alone. There is a few sex scene in there if that bothers you. It didn’t add or take away from the story. The mixture of technology and magic was done well and could go far if the author ends up exploring it.

* Thrilling tail of adventure set in futuristic Kyoto, no longer Japan.
* I'm really curious if I could follow this book and learn to cultivate my Chi.
* I now understand how traditional Chinese medicine came to be used and still used today although it often contrasts with modern science.
* Perfect mix of Cyber punk, kung-fu, karate, Tai chi, fantasy, hacking, anime, and science.
* Although a pure work of fiction, the book definitely teaches and illuminates many elements of science, Japanese history, and philosophy.

stupid characters

Some just tried to shoot me in the head I am going to apologize to them for stopping them. I left them alive but hurt them a little in self defense but I need to apologize. police and military hurt an alien diplomat and it's no problem I can't suspend disbelief on that one. All else being said I did like the rest. Narrator was awesome as always he was the reason I got the book after listening to his latest work.
